Era De Doloris

Brendan W Vittum
Era de Dolōris*

Sorrow
dancing with madness,
Bones
sees a photograph, words -
and reads the thought
of a master,
mistress.

He should
erase
those - pictures, words; should
stop visiting,
remembering,
a willful dolor, existing
on a diet of tired
old songs
and a forlorn belief
in hope - hoping.

He should - but
has not
the strength, heart.
The words,
images?
They stay
another day.

Desire
consumes
desire.
