Eric Mangini Right Man for the Job in Cleveland?

Vonda Menard
First new Browns head coach, Eric Mangini, waits until the last minute to announce who won the starting QB job, for the Cleveland Browns, Brady Quinn was the lucky guy. Now, three weeks into the season, Quinn has been benched. Really, that's all the kid gets 2 ½ games with this offense? In his third game this season, as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback, Quinn faced and uphill battle against the Baltimore Ravens, one of the best defensive teams in the league.

Whoever plays quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, will have difficulty with the current talent available to them. The Browns number one receiver, Braylon Edwards, has trouble holding on the ball and hasn't blossomed into a first round, #1 receiver yet. Kellen Winslow is gone, and the Browns failed to bring in a tight end capable of providing the quarterback a legitimate underneath threat, not to mention their anemic running game.

Jamal Lewis missed game three to injury and the Browns running game, like it's passing game, was non existent. Anderson the new starter, didn't play well last week in relief of Quinn, and if he struggles this week, can Mangini really afford to make yet another QB change. Heck Brett Ratliff, the player the Browns received from the Jets in the draft day trade, may even be the Browns starter at some point this season.

Young quarterbacks struggle, unless their name is Ryan, or Flacco, but those two were blessed with going to strong organizations. Flacco has the benefit of playing with a great defense in Baltimore, and a serviceable running game. Matt Ryan also benefited by having a good running game in Atlanta, and now he has one of the best tight ends in the game, Tony Gonzalez, at his disposable. Brady Quinn has Jamal Lewis, and Braylon Edwards.

Now, Quinn's career numbers aren't good, 93 of 171 for 963 yards with 3 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions, but considering what he has to work with, his audition for the part of Cleveland Browns starting QB, should've been longer. The Cleveland Browns once again find themselves rebuilding and you wonder if Mangini and or Quinn, is the right man to rebuild with. Time will tell who last longer in Cleveland, Mangini or his current quarterbacks.

  • Whover QB's the Cleveland Browns, they'll need more talent around them to be successful.
  • Eric Mangini has yet to win over his team, or a game.
  • Brady Quinn not given a chance as he's benched quickly.
