Erroneous Report Over Congresswoman Tubbs Jones Death Settled

The death of Ohio congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones has been confirmed. The 58 years old congresswoman, who was the first African American to be elected to congress in the state of Ohio, died yesterday August 20, 2008, of hemorrhage caused by brain aneurysm.

Initially, it was reported by sources on major news organizations that the congresswoman had died in the early afternoon yesterday. However, it was apparently a false report, as the congresswoman's death did not happen until shortly after 6PM yesterday according to the Cleveland Clinic where she passed away.

The confusion apparently started when a doctor reported the woman had been "in critical condition with limited brain function." That might have got some to think that she had passed. Major party leaders and supporters were said to have been involved in the erroneous reporting, confirming Jones' death without here being completely dead.

Tubbs Jones's vehicle had had veered off a road into a grassy area in a suburban street of Cleveland on Tuesday night. She was later found slumped over her vehicle wheels around 9PM and then rushed to the clinic.

In any case, it is sad news for this rising politician who had been vocal about her support for the Democratic candidate Hilary Rodham Clinton for the presidency. She spoke out in her belief that Hilary would make a great president. When her choice did not work out, she was one of the super delegates who quickly and wholeheartedly turned their support for Barack Obama, the presumptive democratic nominee.

She had been a model for women, particularly African American women in public elected office, and being the first African American woman to be elected to the U.S House of Representatives representing Ohio was not her only first.
Tubbs Jones served as the first African American and first female prosecutor in Cuyahoga County of Cleveland. She was also the first African American woman member of the Common Pleas Bench in Ohio and served as a Municipal Court Judge. Her achievements are simply inspiring.

She would have been one of the super delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver coming up next week. Condolences to her family, and may her soul rest in peace.
