Erykah Badu loved the video and laughed. "In the traditional performance art, I think it's beautiful because that's ... funny as hell," she told Wanda Sykes.
Erykah went on the Wanda Sykes show to address the controversy over her "Window Seat" video where she strips "butt naked" in Dealy Square at the site where President Kennedy was assasinated in 1963. Badu said: "John F Kennedy was a revolutionary; he was not afraid to butt heads with America, and I was not afraid to show America my butt-naked truth."
Be that as it may, Ms. Badu is not unaware of local ordinances concerning nudity. As reported by KWTX.com on March 30, 2010, Ms. Badu Twittered that the video "was shot guerrilla style, no crew, 1 take, no closed set, no warning, 2 min., downtown dallas, then ran like hell."
City spokesman Frank Librio said these "guerilla" film crews know they may be arrested and/or face penalties if caught. He stated that Badu's crew never applied for required permits.
As for the issue of her "art," it is asking quite a lot of your average American family walking around Dealy Square, or anywhere else, to understand why a singer shows up and publicly disrobes without regard to the presence of young children.
One web surfer commented "If most of us exposed ourselves in front of children, it would and should bring serious charges. The rest of us would be forced to register as sex offenders for this sort of thing. Compared to the rest of the public she got off way too easy! I hope she realizes this! This was a sex crime, not simply "art"!"
It was also suggested that she could have worn a string bikini. Not a bad idea, she could have got somebody to photoshop the bikini out if she really had to be butt naked in the the last part of video. The video is now playing in reverse on her website so the total nudity occurs at the beginning and it really is only a small segment. The point of the nudity (if there really is one) is lost, in any event, since it is blurred out.

Post a Commenteveryone is trying to say something.
I hadn't heard about this situation. Sounds like she violated some laws to get the video done. If Wanda Sykes did a spoof of something, I'm sure it is funny. I'm going to watch it now. Good article.
I'm still not sure what to make of the controversy, but I laughed hysterically at Wanda Sykes' parody!
Well, she did it for attention, and it worked. The web surfer is right. Aren't there laws in Texas against exposing one's self in front of...anyone?
I don't mind the nudity, but I am not sure how I would feel if I were a parent walking down the street with my child at the time. Why didn't she stage this on a closed set?
