I think Escondido's popularity is greatly attributed for "Cruzin' Grand" which is held every Friday night on Grand Avenue. This event, however, is seasonal starting in April and ending in August. Thousands of people show up for this event- which is free and for all ages. Here you can look at Vintage and classic cars (ranging from the early 1900's to the late 1970's) and get to talk to the owners. If you're lucky and have quite a lot of cash, you might even be able to buy one of these cars!
Like I said, everyone's friendly although you might occasionally encounter someone a little eccentric. Not to worry, thought, they don't bite. Many of the car owners are happy to converse with you and show off their masterpiece (most of the cars are worked on by the owner). Even people at the shops are nice... they randomly give away free candy just because!
So maybe you're not that into cars, don't worry, I'm the same way. Some of these cars are so thoughtfully decorated; however, you can't help admire them. I also enjoy looking at the shops. Pizza restaurants, hair salons, pet shops-they've got pretty much everything.
Like live music? Who doesn't? Yep, they have it too!
What if you have little kids? They can have a lot of fun too. Cruzin' Grand also hosts a hula hoop contest where kids can participate. They play music and everyone gathers to look at how cute the kids look! Do they win something? I'm not sure but I know they enjoy themselves.
Of course, you can't leave this place without a souvenir. They have t-shirts, stickers, etc... your ordinary souvenirs. Also, feel free to take videos and pictures of your favorite cars. If you're really lucky, you might even be able to sit in one of them.
Cruzin Grand is definitely a unique experience only Escondido can offer you. I highly suggest you visit and I guarantee you'll have a great time.
