Thank you for being my strength when I needed it, my teacher and friend.
Even when I am all grown up my love and need for you will never end.
I may need advice or just someone else's opinion.
I'll know just who to ask.
I can draw on your years of experience as you fondly recall the past.
It will be alright if you skip over a few memories, like when I stayed out so late and didn't bother to call.
Or times when I thought I was so smart and you knew nothing at all.
Time changes so many things as a child grows and matures in body and mind.
Often my thoughts turn to you, Dad, and this is what I find.
My life was so much better when I listened to you.
The times I acted on my own sometimes did not go as I had planned.
Thanks also to you I learned from my mistakes but at times I needed a helping hand.
I can't repay you in kind but I really want you to know,
I will try to always be the person you will be proud of, because I love you so.
