In ESPN's auction style format, you are given $200M to spend on your fantasy roster. I forgo players such as Adrian Peterson and Matt Forte that both go around $60M, and wait for bargains. Here is my roster and advice.
Roster:
QB- Matt Schaub
Schaub is a great value pick for the 2009 season. With Steve Slaton being able to catch out of the backfield, Andre Johnson, and Kevin Walter at wide receiver, Schaub should have a great year and can be picked up for around $10M-$15M in the auction draft format
RB1: Kevin Smith
After all of the top running backs go for $50+M which is a 4th of your given $200M salary, Smith is a good pickup at around $20-25M. Although not on my roster, Ronnie Brown is a steal in this format also.
RB2: Willie Parker
Parker is cheap due to injury concerns and the possible emergence of Rashard Mendenhall. Parker should have a solid season and is a good pick at around $11M
RB/WR: Roddy White
Roddy White put up some of the best numbers of all wide receivers in the NFL last season, but hasn't gain the respect he deserves quite yet. White can be picked up for around $25M.
WR1: Greg Jennings
Greg Jennings is another great value at around $25M for his production. In the auction format you can get three quality receivers for the amount of one great quarterback.
WR2: Marques Colston
Colston is cheaper then Jennings or Roddy White, and with Brees behind center, you can bet that he will have a great season and is worth $20M.
TE: Tony Gonzalez
Tight Ends are cheap. Gonzalez, even being the highest rated tight end for the 2009 season goes for around $17M, I got him for $13M. If you don't like Gonzalez then grab Whitten or Clark, they are just as good and should go for around the same amount.
D/ST: Panthers
Panthers were only $1M, just filled the roster with them, no specific reason for selecting.
K: Ryan Longwell
Best kicker I could get for the minimum $1M., don't waste anything on a kicker.
Bench: Dwayne Bowe, Pierre Thomas, Donovan McNabb, Ben Roethlisberger, Julius Jones, Donnie Avery, Chester Taylor
I am happier with my bench than my starting roster. Dwayne Bowe, Pierre Thomas, and Donovan McNabb could be starters on any fantasy team. Add to them Julius Jones who is the starter in Seattle but is very cheap (Around $4M).
Advice
My advice for using the ESPN auction format is to hold off on the priciest players so you can afford a rounded team. Many other team managers spend half of their bank on 2 players, leaving you with good deals later on.
