The On Demand Books' Espresso Book Machine prints on an average of145 pages per minute at a cost of around 1 cent for each page. The deal between On Demand Books and Google will benefit both parties such as On Demand selling more machines since they'll be able to push the fact that people can have access to 2 million books and print them off with great quality printing. Google understands that not everyone wants to view books via online so by doing the joint venture they'll increase traffic to their book library and give people options for viewing the books.
The Espresso Book Machine is like a vending machine without any hard goods to purchase. The machine connects to Google's library that allows people to find a particular book and print the digital copy to hardcopy. The machines themselves require very little overhead expense besides paper and ink for printing.
On Demand Books has filled a niche market that will open the world to a vast array of knowledge at an affordable price if someone requires a hardcopy version.
