Essential Back-To-School Supplies Checklist for Grades 5 and 6

'A to Z' School Supply List to Start the School Year

Aliyah Spears
You're probably a professional at this now, after all you have about 5 years of practice. However, just like most of us, you need a list and/or a refresher of what your child needs for the coming school year. Whether you forget certain items every year or are 'new' to the Mommy-Daddy school supplies rat race; this is a guide in the basic essentials your child will need starting out the school year in grades 5 and 6. This list covers a spectrum of items from paper to software to emergency aids. It is best, especially for frequent use items such as pens, pencils and notebook paper, to buy hoards of extras. You'll only err on the good side of caution with this practice. For one, school supplies last forever. For two, children as they advance in grades receive an increasingly heavier workload each year. And for three, the sales...the sales...are real budget savers in the back-to-school season-August through mid September. Yes, there will be sales again in January, but prices, supply and variety will be quite abbreviated. So, stock up now for this entire school year and then some. You just can't go wrong with this advice.

Here is your supply list for the slightly older elementary school student. Remember...with ever advancing technology your child probably needs a few more technologically and/or computer oriented essentials than when you were in school. Most children now need flash drives to store and save computer work, scientific calculators as a component of their textbook assignments and a pair of earphones for computer classwork (think privacy in a full library). Library work essentially includes 'computer time' too, in today's scholastic world. Additionally, a cell phone is highly recommended. This will be indispensable for normal everyday contact with your child on-the-go and in an emergency situation should the need arise. Ensure your child is prepared for the school day by assuring he/she has the right and adequate school supplies.
