Essential Foods for Active Children

Manda Spring
Active Children are so much fun but are they getting enough nutrition to maximize their health? Just because active children are so much more energetic some parents think that it is okay to give them junk food, fast foods and sweets because they'll "burn it off." But that is not necessarily a healthy point of view.

Fast foods and junk foods can wear out a body especially those of active children. Their bodies are small and when the fuel they are burning is bad for their over all wellbeing what is going to happen? They'll become sluggish and worn out easily. Those active children you adore will cease to be themselves; instead they will stop finding so much enjoyment in daily activities, feel tired and eventually gain weight which is sometimes harder for them to lose than an adult.

That doesn't mean your active children can not enjoy the sweet foods and even the best tasting foods. By sticking to a guideline of certain natural energy foods you can help your children maintain that vigorous outlook on life and remain as active as they want to be all while knowing you are keeping them healthy and happy.

Essential Foods

Tortilla chips and fresh made salsa is usually a huge hit especially in my family. The veggies you use in the salsa can provide essential nutrients perfect for active children including vitamin C &A, along with protein and fiber. Traditional salsa uses tomatoes garlic, cilantro, green onions and lime juice. Add jalapeƱos if desired.

Bean burritos are a huge success with almost all active children. The reason is because their bodies crave it for the high protein, fiber and iron.

Fish Sticks are another one of the great foods for active children as fish contains so many important vitamins and other nutrients we need daily.

As for sweets, active children can't live without them. But the trick is to do it with a healthy spin. For instance the healthiest sweet desert type of foods are carrot cake, apple pie, baked bananas and creative crepes. Crepes can be filled with so many different things like: vanilla yogurt and fruit (i.e. Strawberries, bananas, raspberries, peaches, etc).

Active Children

Our active children are so important, they are the go-getters, the leaders and the world changing thinkers. It is up to us as their parents to keep them healthy throughout their young lives to shape their nutritional futures. It is our job to form the way they view foods and they way they consume them if we want them to be healthy for life.
