If you are planning on going backpacking; one important, but often overlooked item for new backpackers are backpacking boots. When you're backpacking all you have to rely on are your feet. Backpacking can be very enjoyable. However, it is essential you make sure your feet are comfortable. When you are out backpacking, the last thing you need is to be miles from civilization and not have comfortable backpacking boots on. It's worthwhile to take a little bit of time and learn about the different types of backpacking boots.

Different Kinds of Backpacking Boots

When deciding what pair of backpacking boots is right for you, it's important to know what types of terrain you will be backpacking across. This is important because there are many different types of backpacking boots available for many different types of terrain. For example, if you're primarily going to be backpacking in wooded and wilderness areas, you need to get a pair of backpacking boots best suited for that type of terrain. If you plan to do backpacking in a cold or snowy climate you're going to want a pair of insulated backpacking boots. On the contrary, if you plan on backpacking in a tropical or warm climate, you're going to need a pair of backpacking boots that will allow your feet to breathe and stay cool and dry.

If you plan on backpacking through multiple terrains, like if you are going to take a trip across Europe, you'll need a pair of backpacking boots that are all purpose. You're going to want to make sure that your backpacking boots are extremely comfortable. Durability is also the next most important quality after comfort.

Different terrains will demand different types of backpacking boots. Make sure that you ask for assistance in the store if you're unsure what type of terrain the backpacking boots are for. The staff should be knowledgeable and courteous. Don't feel intimidated. Remember, if you are treated rudely or the staff doesn't seem to know, go somewhere else to buy your backpacking boots.

Style Not Important

You're not buying backpacking boots for a fashion show. The style should be the last thing on your list when it comes to buying a pair of backpacking boots. If you are forced to take a pair of backpacking boots that look ugly but are more comfortable than a pair which look good but don't fit as well, always go with comfort over style. Of course, if you find a pair which meet and exceed all the important criteria and are stylish, buy them. Remember, don't buy a pair just because they look good..

Durability

This was touched on a little bit previously, but is worth mentioning again. You have to ensure that your backpacking boots will be able to stand up to the terrain and duration of your backpacking trip. You don't want to find yourself in the middle of nowhere with a pair of backpacking boots that are falling apart. It's important to not skimp when it comes to price. When it comes to backpacking boots, generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Don't get a pair of backpacking boots just because they are the cheapest. You may very well regret that decision. That doesn't mean you have to pay full price either. Before you go shopping, do some research. Find out what brands are top for the terrain you'll be hiking across. Then do some comparison shopping. Usually, you'll be able to find top brands on sale. You just may have to do a little digging, but in the end it will be worth your time to do so.
