Athlete's foot is a dry, red, itchy fungus that forms between the toes and spreads to other parts of the foot. There are many natural remedies used to treat athlete's foot but the most effective treatment may be the use of essential oils.

Essential Oils for Athlete's Foot - Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is one of the best essential oils for athlete's foot. It is antimicrobial and soothes itching and inflammation associated with athlete's foot.

Combine one half teaspoon lavender essential oil with one half cup apple cider vinegar to make an antifungal foot spray. Spray on to the feet once per day after you get out of the shower.

Essential Oils for Athlete's Foot - Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea tree essential oil is an extremely powerful antifungal and is one of the best essential oils for treating fungal skin infections, such as athlete's foot. Combined with lavender essential oil, you can make a potent treatment for the condition.

Combine equal parts of tea tree and lavender essential oils. Apply between the toes and around the affected area twice per day to relieve itching and battle the fungus.

Essential Oils for Athlete's Foot - Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium is another of the greatest essential oils for the treatment of athlete's foot. It is antifungal and antiseptic, meaning it will fight and kill the bacteria of athlete's foot.

Try adding about twenty drops of geranium essential oil to a footbath and soaking the feet for twenty minutes. Perform this treatment three times per day if possible. Or, dab the affected area with a few drops of the essential oil on a cotton ball.

Essential Oils for Athlete's Foot - Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil is also an antifungal and one of the lesser known essential oils used to treat athlete's foot. It smells great and will have help fight this fungal infection. It's recommended that it be used in conjunction with another of the essential oils such as lavender or tea tree.

Use peppermint essential oil in a footbath combined with other essential oils. Or, you can combine a few drops of peppermint with an equal part lavender or tea tree essential oils. Then, apply directly to the affected area a few times a day. If you are worried about irritation, you could combine the essential oils in carrier oil.

Essential Oils for Athlete's Foot - Myrrh Essential Oil

Not only is myrrh essential oil antifungal, it's also one of the best essential oils to treat the painful cracking and dry skin associated with athlete's foot. It's best used in conjunction with lavender essential oil for this purpose.

Combine ten drops of myrrh and lavender essential oils in a cup of aloe vera juice. Then, apply the solution to the feet three times per day for relief from athlete's foot.
