Essential Tips for Winter Skin Care

Use Moisturizing Body Wash and Bathe in Tepid Water

Cathy A Montville
Of all the seasons, winter is the hardest on your skin. When temperatures drop, the air loses moisture, and can leave skin dry. With these easy-to-follow tips, learn how to moisturize and protect your skin in winter.

1. Use Moisture-Rich Body Wash Daily - Stave off the loss of and restore moisture using a skin-comforting body wash in your daily shower. Some moisture-packed ingredients to look for in a body wash include:

*Shea Butter - Rich with moisturizing properties, shea butter can also boost the skin's elasticity, which is a welcome benefit.

*Honey - Not just for sweetening tea, you will find honey in many bath products because of its ability to lock in moisture on the skin. It is an overall amazing moisturizer. Do not use if you are allergic to honey.

*Glycerin - Glycerin is a humectant and attracts moisture to the skin. An exceptional bath product ingredient, glycerin can nourish and heal very dry skin.

*Vitamins - Vitamin E has been a standard nourishing ingredient in body wash for some time. Advanced anti-aging body washes now contain skin soothing vitamins B5 and B3.

2. Pamper Skin with Olive Oil - Plugged as being beneficial to your health, olive oil is a moisturizing bonus for your skin, too. Add two or three tablespoons of olive oil to a tepid bath. Sooth and moisturize hands parched from winter, by gently massaging olive oil into the skin. Cover with cotton gloves.

Treat your feet to the same winter skin care, but cover with cotton socks. You can wear the gloves or socks to bed.

There are many olive oil-based facial cleansers on the market. Moisturize skin while washing away the grit of the day, with a cleanser containing olive oil.

3. Beware Hot Water - Cold weather and the comfort of a steamy, hot bubble bath seem to go hand-in-hand. However, soaking in overly hot water can rob your skin of moisture. It can exacerbate an already dry-skin problem as well.

Go easy on your skin by bathing in tepid (lukewarm) water. As for the bubble bath -- be sure it, too, contains moisturizing ingredients that will benefit your skin.

4. Indulge Skin with Deep-Penetrating Moisture Creams - Winter skin care calls for serious moisturizing. When shopping for body lotion or cream, focus on products designed for dry skin. Products specifically created for dry skin, contain extra ingredients that are key to moisturizing skin in winter.

Purchase moisturizing skin care lotions or creams that include, but are not limited to -- aloe vera, sunflower seed or wheat germ oil. A favorite winter moisturizer is cocoa butter. Cocoa butter blasts your skin with intensive moisture relief brought on by the harsh winter weather.

I like a nice hot bath but haven't thought about what it does to my already dry skin. Thanks for the tips.

Wearing socks to bed to hold lotion to the skin is a good idea, but wear very loose socks to prevent cutting off blood circulation to the feet.

Great tips. I live in Florida and the AC is very drying. I use Olive Oil straight from the bottle. I like it better than lotion.
