Eternity in a Waiting Room

Wiley Vaughn
At 53 years of age, I've spent my share of time in hospital waiting rooms. Usually clean, but seldom quiet, the atmosphere there is something between a circus and a funeral. Crying kids, hectic parents and somber visitors quietly discussing the weighty details of life and death, social security, politics, old family feuds and even important things, like who gets mom's ring if she croaks. It seems so silly now, how folks will squabble over land, houses and money and forget the important things like love, saying goodbye and the eternal destination of a soon to be departing soul.

There are those among you, gentle readers, that would chide me, or laugh at what would seem to be ignorant superstition on my part. Listen for a moment, please. As a nurse, I've been present at many deathbeds. There are only two types of people dying: the saved who know Jesus Christ and the who don't. Before it became commonplace to drug dying folk senseless, it was more common to hear whispered joyous words of glimpses of heaven and loved ones long departed. There were also screams of terror and pain, as doubters learned for themselves that hell was real. You would not want to look into the eyes of the dying lost, once they have glimpsed what lies beyond this life.

Every time I come to a hospital waiting room, I get a reminder of just how short our time on earth is, especially in comparison to eternity. If you have never been saved, never asked Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins, I beg you to do so, before it is eternally too late.

Time spent in a waiting room may seem like eternity, but imagine an eternity of suffering in a burning lake of fire. You don't have to die lost. Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, died on the cross to save you from your sin. Accept him as your Lord and Saviour today.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

A powerful and true message indeed. I pray that it does not go unheeded. As you and I both know, if men and women hear the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and do not respond, they can expect no mercy when they stand before God on the day of judgement. They will only face greater condemnation.

Wow...what a powerful witness of Christ you are my friend. The line "Time spent in a waiting room may seem like eternity, but imagine an eternity of suffering in a burning lake of fire." gives me all the more urgency to share Jesus and bring as many men and women to heaven as I can. Outstanding article about which side of eternity we'll be at.
