Ethnic Fest in Two Rivers, Wisconsin

Small Midwest Community Provides Culteral Opportunity

Robert Dobbs
Who would believe that a small community in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, would be the site of such a good opportunity for fun and the enjoyment of multiculturalism? Ethnic Fest, which is hosted in the small community of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, celebrates more than 60 cultures from around the world with ethnic foods, music, dance, crafts, entertainment, and fun for the whole family! Cultures represented include Hmong, German, Indian, Peruvian, Indonesian, Inkas, Kichwas, and the indigenous people from the Andes and Quichua.

Pato Banton and his seven-piece band, The Now Generation, along with the Tamburitzans, and Omo-Ana, Children of the Spirit Drum will provide the headline entertainment at the 18th annual Ethnic Fest, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in downtown Two Rivers. Pato Banton is a Grammy nominated Reggae Artist of world renowned fame that even Ziggy Marley has been seen backstage with. Pato Banton is known for his unconventional performance style, which has endeared him to his fans, and his songs spreading his world-peace message. Not only are his lyrics focused on the world; many of his lyrics are about the human condition and what the individual can do.

However, the festivities begin a day early with Pato Banton. You can enjoy his music in the hip Stumpjack Coffee Company at 1606 Washington Street, in Two Rivers. Stumpjack is run by David Smith and is a cultural diamond in the ruff in Two Rivers. With his eclectic coffee menu and out of this world pizza, you can also enjoy a specialty beer or wine while enjoying some of the best acoustic and hip acts in Wisconsin. Dave, and his family, provides excellent food, coffee, and service to all.

Ethnic fest brings anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 visitors to the event, depending upon weather, and is touted as one of the premier events in Northeast Wisconsin to attend. With over 100 craft vendors, 25 food vendors, and various cultural musical presentations; there is fun for everyone and of all ages. My own past experiences put me into the mindset that I have just stepped into event in cities the like of Chicago or New York. The smells of different food, the sounds of different music, and the swell of people; coupled along with the small town atmosphere, are experiences not to be forgotten.

It is nice in a day and age in which everyone is worried of jobs, health care, the economy, and Iraq; that we have an opportunity such as this to sit back, relax, and enjoy a day of multicultural entertainment. Couple this with the small town atmosphere of a Midwestern community, how can you go wrong. All I can say is you need to come and enjoy this jewel of an event.
