Etsy Interview with 10 P.M. Jewelry
First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.

Well, I'm past middle age but keep in shape with lots of exercise and yoga. In fact, my real job is being a yoga teacher for the past 20 years. Yoga and making jewelry go hand in hand. After hours of sitting and working with small parts, I get to go teach a class and stretch out all those tense muscles! I live in the midwest and have a house close to a cute little town so lots of walks provide time to think up some new creations for my 10 P.M. Jewelry shop. My shop name incorporates the theme to time plus my birthday month is October for the number 10 and my initials happen to be PM so it works perfectly for me!

How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?

I started making jewelry 16 years ago with a gal who would go to a lot of local and out of state shows. She supplied me with all the parts, and I made a percentage of my sales at her shows. We made mostly charm and stone collages and one day I used an old watch face and found I really enjoyed using watchparts in my jewelry. She moved to another state and I started buying my own parts, mostly steamunk items, and thus started my own 10 P.M. Jewelry business.

When and how id you originally find Etsy?

I was actually selling my jewelry at a local show and one of my customers asked me if I was on Etsy. I never heard of Etsy and decided to take a look when I got home. I was very impressed with the site and signed up right away to be a seller!

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

I love that one can find anything you can think of on Etsy! It's a fantastic place to search for just the right gift for anyone! There are so many wonderful artists and the creativity is over the edge. It's very easy to navigate thru for buying and also easy to learn how to sell there. As far as my shop, I love being able to share pictures to Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. Etsy makes it easy to do that which helps you advertise your merchandise!

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

I am a very "cosmic" person and incorporate the theme of time in most of my pieces. I also create with items such as the sun, moon, stars, and saturn in with my the idea of infinite time. The past and romanticism also inspire me but sometimes I jump out of that arena and just create pure funky pieces that come into my mind.

What is your favorite piece you've created and why?

That's a very difficult question to answer! I guess all in all I like the layered collage look and so I have created a couple necklaces that pile watch gears upon gears and incorporate one piece of vintage in the collage or dangle a watchface or piece of vintage. I think those necklaces have "steampunk" all over them loud and clear.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

I hope to eventually have enough repeat buyers that I could be so busy selling that my second home would be the post office lol. Seriously, I hope I can stay creative enough to be a big seller on Etsy; that would be an accomplishment to me.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

Lately I have made a few necklaces that feature one watchface and loads of vintage jewelry around it with a dangling key on one end. Also, just the past few days I have affixed three watchfaces together with just one piece of vintage jewelry on it so that the one piece really stands out. I have also started using charms a bit more lately.

Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers?

Right now I am only selling on Etsy, however, I do occasionally send a picture to Facebook and only very recently started using Google Analytics. I do not have my own jewelry website yet. I hope one day 10 P.M. Jewelry is a popular Etsy shop!
