Etsy Interview with City Details

Etsy Interview with City Details
First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.

I'm the creator of City Details. I am originally from New England. My Mom worked at Coro Jewelry Mfg. Coro was very famous for costume jewelry in the 50's and 60's. Occasionally my mother would bring work home and let me "help" to make jewelry and rosaries. We now live in sunny South Carolina and hope to retire to the coastal area.

How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?

I copy everything my daughter starts!! Well, not really but one day about eight years ago she came to visit and brought some Swarovski beads. That was all it took, and I was hooked on beads. Just take me to a bead show and drop me off, I probably won't even notice you're gone.

When and how did you originally find Etsy?

I found Etsy on the about.com forum about 4 years ago and decided to give it a try. I opened my shop, City Details, on a Sunday afternoon. By the next morning I had sold a pair of earrings! Wow, I thought this is gonna be easy!! Not so much. It took another month before I sold anything else. What a bummer, but I kept trying and feel I've done well so far.

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

Etsy brings artists together from every nation. Everyone is so unique, that 35,000 people make jewelry and they are all different. You are bound to find something special for yourself or as gifts for others. I love Etsy!!

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

I am inspired by the changing of the seasons, fashion, colors, and other artists. I will sometimes sit down to create a piece for City Details with the vision in my head ready to go. Occasionally it doesn't turn out like the vision but something else entirely. Daydreaming also helps!!

What is your favorite piece you've created and why?

My favorite piece is one I make often. My rock crystal briolette earrings! They can be worn on the weekend, to work or a night on the town. They were featured in the gift guides during the Christmas rush. They were very popular and I continue to sell them frequently.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

Eventually I would like to be selling full time on Etsy. It is amazing to me a woman who lives in France is wearing my design or a husband will come into the shop and buy for his wife. I get tremendous satisfaction and pride in knowing others appreciate and love my work as much as I do.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

I am considering a new line of personalized copper and silver stamped jewelry for City Details. I am also designing a line very affordable birthstone necklaces and earrings. I always welcome convos and special requests in my shop.

Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers (including additional websites, blogs, facebook, etc)?

My facebook business page is here.

I have sales every now and then and post them on my facebook page. I hope you will all come and visit my shop!!
