Etsy Interview with EVC Gems

EVC Gems is a small family owned and operated company that officially became a business in 2007. The idea for EVC Gems' name came by simply using the first letter of each of the designers' name (Eartha, Virginia, and Cassandra Green) in addition to coming up with a descriptive way to explain who we are and what we do.

How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?

It all began with my sister and me watching our mom sew as well as buy jewelry, break it apart, and put it back together to her liking. Although we observed her recreate bought jewelry pieces, the designer instinct didn't resonate in us until years later. We started buying material and making jewelry for ourselves and noticed all of the attention and compliments we were receiving. People took an interest in purchasing jewelry from us and it was at that point "EVC Gems Elegant. Versatile. Captivating." was born.

When and how did you originally find Etsy?

EVC Gems found Etsy in 2007 and didn't become a member until 2008. We were looking at various options on how to put our jewelry on the internet and came across an Etsy online shop. After researching Etsy's policy, EVC Gems decided that establishing an Etsy online shop would be a great place to make our internet introduction.

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

Etsy is great place to showcase EVC Gems' jewelry and gain exposure among a large group of people who share similar interests, as well as those who can appreciate handcrafted jewelry. It is also cost efficient, which makes it a great place to launch a new business. In addition (However), an established business can also benefit from joining for the same reasons.

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

Inspiration for us is derived from using our five senses. Our ideas come from nature and all of its' beauty, the feeling you get when emotions takeover whether good or bad, and harmonious or rhythmic music. It is ultimately about whatever captures our attention and gets our imagination soaring.

What is your favorite piece you've created and why?

All of our pieces are our favorites. Each one is created from the heart and with the thought of what we would love to wear that piece with whether we own the outfit or not.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

We would like "EVC Gems Elegant. Versatile. Captivating." to become a favorite shopping website amongst the Etsy jewelry lovers. We want the EVC Gems' online shop to be a "go to" place for shoppers when they are looking for exclusive gifts for birthdays, graduations, weddings, and holidays, or for the jewelry lover who loves unique pieces and don't require a special occasion/reason to buy jewelry pieces. We also want the shoppers to walk away with great customer service experiences. That when a shopper visits the EVC Gems' online shop to buy pieces or to ask questions, they will get an immediate response (usually within 1-2 days).

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

We have recently released the EVC Gems' Bridal Collection, which we are very excited about. It is a compilation of sterling silver with cubic zirconia, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and pearls, and crystal quartz. As far as EVC Gems everyday jewelry, we are in the deciding phase right now as to what direction we want to take EVC Gems 2011 Spring/Summer Collection. We are contemplating a nature theme with the intent of taking you on an around the world shopping adventure without leaving your home.
