Etsy Interview with Lime Green Modern

Etsy Interview with Lime Green Modern
First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.

My name is Tracy and I run Lime Green Modern from my studio at the base of the Rocky Mountains. I love the modern aesthetic, clean lines, and am a minimalist at heart. This has always been the inspiration for my jewelry style. I have two great kids and a husband who let me hammer away at all hours of the night. Thank goodness they are all heavy sleepers!

How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?

I have always loved jewelry and was constantly collecting things as a kid to make into a pendant necklace or ring. I enjoyed creating jewelry in college as a hobby but once I started my job as an OR RN that took priority for many years. After having my children, I got more serious about turning my hobby into a business because I wanted to stay home with them, so Lime Green Modern was born.

When and how did you originally find Etsy?

The first time I heard about Etsy was from a friend who had opened a shop to sell hair accessories back in 2005. I started exploring it and thought it was so cool! Fast forward a few years later when I decided to sell my jewelry and Etsy was the first place I thought of to do that!

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

One of the greatest things about Etsy is that it has such a vast clientele from all over the world, both buyers and sellers. My very first sale was to a great buyer in Canada, and I regularly send things to places I would love to visit someday, like Australia. I also love to buy from international sellers too.

I love to explore Etsy just to see what pops up. I'll just type "modern" into the search and am just amazed at what I can find...mid-century modern prints, chunky colorful rings, the list goes on and on. I have a "favorites" list a mile long and love to buy from it regularly.

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

I have a quote from Leonardo da Vinci in my shop profile that says, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." This is really my mantra, as simplicity really is the key to all of my designs.

I always go with the less is more approach, so my jewelry is modern and sleek looking, but is easily wearable for every day or great for a special occasion.

What is your favorite piece you've created and why?

The pieces I like the most are the earrings in my simple silver series. These earrings all started as simple drawings, doodles, or rough ideas in my ever-present sketch book. I then construct them in copper to work out and refine the design. The final step is to create the finished product in clean, unadorned hammered silver and I love
them.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

I have big plans for Lime Green Modern this fall, as this is the first time my kids will both be in school full time and I will have lots of new found time! My first goal is to really turn this into my full time business.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

One of the main things on my to-do list is to add more necklaces. I have a zillion ideas sketched out, many worked out in silver, and will start the picture taking and listing process for many of those very soon.

Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers (including additional websites, blogs, facebook, etc)?

I do enjoy blogging at limegreenmodern.blogspot.com, usually mixing business topics with a splash of personal things. My blogs always follow the "short but sweet" idea of writing, with a picture to accent my thoughts. I also have a facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/limegreenmodern), where I like to post new things or advertise special sales.
