My name is Pnina, I am 46 years old and I live in Jerusalem with my husband, my two kids (my daughter is a student at the university and my son is a policeman) and two dogs, in a very old and special house that stands on a top of a hill and you can see the amazing view of the old and the new city of Jerusalem.
How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?
I was always very creative; I used to create craft, renovate old or antique furniture, kniting, sewing and design jewelry as a hobby and as a giveaway to my family and friends. At the last few years I start marketing my stuff and I am doing very well, lately I joined Etsy and open my shop Room of Your Own and a whole new world of creation was discovered to me, however, I still keep my day job as an administration manager at a publishing house..
When and how did you originally find Etsy?
I discovered Etsy in one of the popular blog I was reading, and I was immediately captured. This was like finding heaven! Then I was inspired to open my shop, Room of Your Own . Etsy has changed my life in a way. It has given me a way to change my fun hobby into a small business. I also become a great Etsy buyer and I find and buy really unique and beautiful items from other shops all the time.
Buying handmade was always very important to me. I know the love and care that I put into my handmade items so I know that others do so as well. There are also beautiful vintage shops at Etsy's that you can find a gorgeous items including clothing in a very special prices.
What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?
I think Etsy is a great place for small designers like myself. It gives us an opportunity to expose our creation to a lot of people from all over the world. I love the fact that it feels like a community, and that everyone is trying to help and promote each other.
In regards to my shop Room of Your Own , since I am just starting out selling, Etsy has enabled me to get my work out there with very little startup cost and with a lot of help from Etsy support team.
What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?
I really love old, antique and vintage things, so when I'm looking for something to inspire me I usually go to flea markets or farm markets and vintage stores. I also get inspired by watching old movies or watching what jewelry other women are wearing. but mostly the materials that I have in front of me inspire me, there are ones that stick out that I fall in love with. I use my "inspiration" beads to start designing a piece that's in my head. I will often have an idea, and it won't leave me alone until I produce it. I also get fashion trends updates from my daughter and her young friends.
What is your favorite piece you've created and why?
I love all of them of course and I always create pieces that I will like to wear myself. It is so hard to let go of them sometimes, I get attached to them because I have spent so much time designing, creating (usually at nights) and photographing. But If I had to choose one it would be the Flowers Necklace http://www.etsy.com/listing/50743902/the-flowers-necklace
I love the colorful and the mix of many different flower cabochons.
What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?
My shop Room of Your Own is a great way to show my work, to spread the word about my new creations.
My dream is that one day it will become my full time job. It gives me a great pleasure and happiness to know that somewhere on this big planet there are women that are wearing my design jewelry and that it makes them happy and feel good as well .
Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?
Yes, fresh from the "oven", here are 3 new designs that I created last night:
