Etsy Review: Country Folk Soap Creates Handmade Soap, Bath, and Home Scent Products

A Fun and Quirky Business that Creates Quality Handmade Soap and Other Products!

Beth Callahan
I have discovered another handmade bath and soap gem that I have to share. Country Folk Soap that is ran by Geoffrey and Sue out of their Manchester, Maine home. They create a variety of fantastic scented handmade products such as home spray, soap, pet products, and more. Country Folk Soap started with the desire to make quality handmade soap at low prices. Once they succeeded in doing that, Sue and Geoffrey wanted to add more and they are continuing to expand their product line to add a variety of handmade products. Read on for more details about Country Folk Soap and their handmade soap, bath, and home products.

I received a wonderful mix of handmade products from Country Folk Soap and one thing was apparent from the moment that I opened the box. Country Folk Soap products scents are amazing and I will never have any doubt about scent when I order from them. Every single product completely blew my expectations away both in use and in scent. Here are detailed reviews of each product that I received:

Shea N Silent Snob (Cashmere & Cotton) Handmade Soap Bar- This is a nice 4-ounce hand cut handmade soap bar that has such a nice scent. The soap is a tan color with dried calendula buds throughout that give it a nice texture. When I smell this, my first thought is that is smells like clean laundry that has been dried on a clothesline. In fact, can I order this scent in laundry detergent and dryer sheets as well? All kidding aside, this handmade soap has lots of oils and shea butter in its ingredients and has fantastic lathering capabilities. I am a fool for lather when it comes to my soap so this handmade soap was a favorite from the first wash. The scent does linger on the skin and arrives wrapped in a bow with an informative tag attached. The preservatives free handmade soap also comes with a very reasonable expiration date so be sure to check your label for this and other information. This handmade soap does a great job of leaving my skin feeling clean but does not leave it feeling tight or dried out as some handmade soap can. I highly recommend this handmade soap for those that enjoy products with medium scent strength and enjoy "clean" scents.

Chocolate Coconut Cake Handmade Soap- I chose this soap on a whim and I was expecting this to be a novelty soap that did not amount to much. I was proven wrong when this handmade soap actually has great qualities. Visually, the handmade soap looks like a large chunk of chocolate cake. It is a rich brown color and even has a cake like texture to it that I found to be a nice touch. The scent has a surprisingly realistic smell of chocolate with a hint of coconut underneath. When first using the handmade Chocolate Coconut Cake soap, I was a little nervous because I saw that the lather and water turn deep brown from the soap. Thankfully, I had no problem with the color staining or lingering on my bathtub or skin. The lather that it creates is just as good as the previously mentioned handmade soap bar nor was there any soap residue left. I did find that the Chocolate Coconut Cake scent did not last on my skin outside of the shower. I personally did not find this to be a negative for me though. This product is a fun and creative handmade soap bar that rinses clean and smells great.

Shea N Night (Lavender Sage) Handmade Soap Bar- I received a sample chunk of this handmade soap. It is a tan soap bar with lavender buds throughout for added color and texture. I am usually weary of things that are lavender scented because it is so easy to go overboard with the scent. This gentle lavender scented handmade soap bar smells very subdued. The scent is not in anyway perfume like and is very pleasant to smell. I used this handmade soap one as hand soap only because it was a sample piece. I found that it left a nice scent on my hands that lingered for a while and it rinsed clean. My hands also did feel a little softer after each use. I really enjoyed this handmade soap scent because it was one of the first lavender scents that I really enjoyed. The softness of the scent really allows the true lavender scent to shine through.

Goatmeal Bar (Natural Oatmeal) Handmade Soap Bar- I also received a sample chunk of this unscented handmade soap. This is a tan colored soap with what I believe are little flecks of oatmeal throughout. The Oatmeal Bar is one of Country Folk Soap's unscented handmade soap bars for those that have are sensitive to scent. This handmade soap bar is full of moisturizing ingredients such as goat's milk and oatmeal. I found this particular soap to be the most moisturizing out of all the Country Folk Soap handmade soap bars that I tried. This would be the perfect handmade soap for my daughters' who both have eczema. This is a great choice for customers who are sensitive to scent or cannot decide what scent to choose.

Petal of Honor (Hydrangea) Handmade Room Spray- This handmade room spray arrived in a dark brown spray bottle that contains 4 ounces of spray. I chose this spray because true floral scents are one of my top three scents. I enjoy the true flower smell but it can be hard to find ones that do not smell generic or perfume like. The scent of this handmade body spray is amazing. If I closed my eyes and smelled a fresh hydrangea and this body spray, I think I would have trouble telling them apart. I can spray this handmade room spray in the room and it will last for a couple of hours without a problem. I did notice that the scent does start to diffuse after about 1 hour after I sprayed it. You can still smell it without spraying again but the scent intensity does die down. I have asthma and allergies and I had no problems while using this product. I highly recommend this product for flower lovers.

Dog Shea Afternoon Organic Handmade Dog Shampoo- This handmade dog shampoo arrived in a clear squeeze bottle with 4 ounces of product. I chose this product for my chocolate lab Trooper who has sensitive skin that causes him to itch a lot. We have tried a few different commercial dog shampoos that never seem to relieve him of his skin problems. I thought that this handmade organic dog shampoo would be a good thing to try for him. With the first use, I did notice that I could not get this to lather very well. It did seem as though I had to use quite a bit to feel like I was washing Trooper thoroughly. I did lather the handmade dog shampoo in my hands first and then apply the shampoo to Trooper on the second use and that did seem to work better. I did notice that his itchy and red spots did improve with repeated use of this handmade dog shampoo. It also boasts that it has bug repellent capabilities but I cannot confirm or deny that claim because Trooper is on other flea treatment.

Sweet Tea N Honey (Green Tea & Honey) Handmade Soap Bar- This is beautiful golden colored handmade soap bar that smells fantastic. I was hesitant about this one because the scent of green tea can take on a very powerful and herbal scent. I thought that it might turn out to be overbearing. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this handmade soap has a very delicate and clean smell. This is a wonderful scent that stays on the skin for a good amount of time throughout the day. I found that these bars exploded with lather and rinsed away completely clean. I personally have been using this as a facial cleanser but it can be used as a body, hand or even shaving soap.

The customer service that I received from Country Folk Soaps was very prompt and nice. Geoffrey and Sue are very nice and helpful. They hand make all of their products right and in their own kitchen and it is obvious they know each product in and out. Each product is tested on Sue who is a sufferer of Eczema and her skin's reaction is a large gauge on their recommendations of use for various skin types. I love the fact that you can feel their enthusiasm and passion for their handmade bath and home products is obvious. County Folk Soap's product names were the initial draw for me to their Etsy store. I found the handmade product names to be very cute, creative, and funny. They add so much character to each handmade product and once I started reading the creative names, I started reading through the rest of their products to see what else they had.

Country Folk Soaps currently have over 70 scents to choose from and that number is always going up. Country Folk Soaps will also be adding new handmade products such as lip balm, soy candles, body frosting and more. If you are interested in a fantastically scented handmade soaps and bath products with a little character, visit Country Folk Soaps at the Etsy store by clicking here. I highly recommend this fun and high quality brand of handmade soap and bath products.
