Eureka 431BXZ Optima Lightweight Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Jamie Cortez
Eureka has many low-cost vacuums for you to choose. The Eureka 431BXZ upright is one of them and it is sold at about $70 in most stores. However, the low price should not be your only consideration to buy it. Read the following good and bad points of this vacuum before you spend that $70.

Pros

The Eureka 431BXZ Optima lightweight upright is equipped with a powerful 12-amp motor. This motor gives this vacuum a powerful suction to easily suck in dust, dirt, crumbs and hair. Out of the box this unit is already in one piece so no assembly is required before you use it.

Being lightweight means it is easy to move around and it won't kill your back taking it up and down stairs. Its weight also enables you to clean stairs without much problem.

This upright can lean very low and the narrow head makes it easy to go around furniture so you will have no problem vacuuming under the bed and around furniture with this unit. The handle is quite nice too. It is ergonomic and extendable. You can adjust the length to your liking.

Cons

This unit is very noisy especially after the dirt clog the filter and that damn filter clog even after normal use. The noise will make your family frown if you use it while they are around so this is a major downside.

Being bagless means you need to empty the dirt canister after finish vacuuming but the canister is too small you will need to empty and clean it frequently. Washing the filter isn't exactly a fun experience too. It can get very messy. If you got asthma or allergy this is definitely not for you.

This upright also cannot clean deep-pile carpet thoroughly because it lacks carpet height adjustment. It is also unable to adequately clean areas near walls and base boards because the side suction "sucks" (in a bad way). And when you use it on bare floors you can see that the front exhaust is working against you by blowing the dust away.

The other bad points for this upright are short power cord (only 20ft), short hose, the attachments and wheels fall off easily and finally the filter is expensive and hard-to-find on brick-and-mortar store.

Conclusion

You may want to continue looking for a better vacuum. Even though the Eureka 431BXZ Optima lightweight upright has some good points the bad ones outweigh them. For $70 there are some better alternative like the Eureka 437AZ or Eureka 3670G Boss Mighty Mite canister.
