'Eureka' Has Been Cancelled

Susan Elliott

My 15 year old son rushed into my office, where I was working on an article about creating a tessellation project and urgently grabbed my attention by yelling, "Mom, they've cancelled "Eureka!" I studied his face, and while he is often a prankster, I could see the disappointment in his eyes. The only response I could think to utter was, "Seriously?"

My husband, also a fan of the show, looked up from his computer where he was diligently working on computer programming stuff, and questioned me, "Really?" My daughter, who was sitting beside me couldn't believe her ears, and shrieked, "Oh, no!"

Well, it probably wouldn't be a surprise to anyone, that "Eureka" has been a television staple in our house since the pilot episode. Since then, we have fondly welcomed Sheriff Jack Carter and the unconventional town of scientists into our hearts. In fact, we even get excited when we see "Eureka" characters cross over onto other shows like "Warehouse 13," which is another show we are completely addicted too, but I digress.

I am the writer and researcher in the family, so the horrible news that "Eureka" was going to be cancelled fell on my shoulders to be verified. According to Entertainment Weekly, Syfy has cancelled Eureka. They will not be showing a sixth season.

Syfy released this statement to EW, "After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of "Eureka." But "Eureka" is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we've seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012."
