EUReKA
For those who are not familiar with the series, EUReKA is a small town that is chocked full of super genius people that are tasked with any and all types of scientific research, from planetary defense to specialized grids built into the streets to allow driving on auto-pilot (to cut down on teen accidents, of course).
The SyFy channel website contains a (CONFIDENTIAL) Town History for EUReKA that explains how the town was formed and why. Toward the end of WWII, after the nuclear blasts of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, President Truman, with the help of Albert Einstein and other advisors, commissioned a top secret residential development that would serve to protect and nurture America's most valuable intellectual resources.
The only non genius person in EUReKA is Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). Jack may not be a genius but his common sense helps solve more technical situations than anyone could have ever suspected and it makes for quite interesting outcomes in various situations.
Jack and his daughter Zoe (Jordon Hinson), who is a burgeoning genius herself, live in a totally automated house, called S.A.R.A.H., which stands for Self Actuated Residential Automated Habitat. S.A.R.A.H. is not your ordinary house-bot, she runs Sheriff Carter's household, often acting as surrogate wife and mother as she handles daily chores, helping Zoe with her homework, enforcing security protocols and being just a companion when needed. She may have been designed to be the ultimate computer but she does have human qualities that often include things like jealousy, vanity and an occasional pouting session. S.A.R.A.H is fascinated by human nature and also likes to watch The Jerry Springer Show.
Douglas Fargo (Neil Grayston) created S.A.R.A.H. and is yet another funny and beloved character in EUReKA. Fargo is, in his own right, a genius of immeasurable magnitude but he is also the person that ends up causing more mishaps than can be counted. In the commercials for the upcoming new season, mild mannered Fargo takes on a new attitude. Picture the 2nd Terminator with the liquid metal guy entering present day California and visualize a meek, insecure, bookworm type of guy appearing in the same scenario while ordering someone to, "Give me your clothes NOW!" (because he has appeared without clothing). The subtitle across the screen reads, "He was sent into the past to save the future" and all you can think is "Fargo???" Such a contradiction has to be seen to be believed.
Characters include Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Henry Deacon (Joe Morton), Deputy Jo Lupo (Erika Cerra), Zane Donovan (Niall Matter) and others make EUReKA a fascinating place to be and an absolute joy to watch.
EUReKA is an hour of comic relief while delivering various plots that easily capture the imagination. EUReKA began in July of 2006 and is getting ready to start season #4. Fans can find information about the show on the SyFy website, Facebook and Twitter.
