According to The Humane Society of the United States, The European Union has terminated the trade in the products of commercial seal slaughter. This is a day to celebrate, because of their decision the Canadian government will suffer an estimated loss of $6.6 million dollars. Fortunately, this isn't much less than the $7 million they earned last year. Ultimately, this will force the sealers to look for a job elsewhere. Their choice has also resulted in the decline of prices for seal fur, bringing it down to $15 per skin. This is an unbelievable drop of 86% since 2006.
There quota for this year was set for a slaughter of 280,000 harp seals, and luckily less than 60,000 have been killed because of this decision. There is still a battle to be fought, and that's why it's so important for those to educate themselves on the truth of this matter. We need to ensure that no more seals be killed for this pointless reason, this can only be done if enough people fight against the Canadian Sealing Industry.
Animals can't talk, but they know. They feel the same as we do, and they suffer in silence. Just because they don't have a voice doesn't make them or any other animal less important. They have the same rights on this planet as we do, and it's maddening to know that humans mistake there place here on earth. We as mankind have taken for granted the beautiful things nature offers, and have destroyed the cycle that's meant to be. Take part in the fight for animal rights, because if roles were reversed you would want someone to fight for you.
