Evalutation on Gory Movies

Angie
Well, there are several movies out there with excessive blood and gore. Some include Dead Alive, Cannibal Ferox, Hostel, etc. Most films with excessive gore or violence are usually controversial and stir up rebellions. Some are banned from a certain country, or are given a high movie rating(rated R, NC-17, etc). What is surprising, however, is that some controversial films, such as Cannibal Ferox, "proudly" state on their website or DVD cover that their film is banned in, say 37 countries. Or, they state things like, "The Most Controversial Film Ever Made." It might be for pure sensationalism, or they may think that hardcore gore fans would want to see it and that they would gain a larger audience. The real reason, I don't know. Horror/Scary movies used to have little blood and gore, and would mainly focus on trying to "scare" the audience(i.e. make them jump in their seat), hence the name "scary movies." Recently, however, movies have been containing more violence, nudity, gore, etc. This, of course, causes controversy and protests. However, movies back then were also controversial. In fact, some had more blood and gore than the movies today. Here are some gory movies, along with a brief description about them:

Dead Alive: Dead Alive is a horror-comedy movie with excessive blood and gore. It was directed by Peter Jackson and was released on February 12, 1993. It is originally called Braindead, but is renamed Dead Alive in North America. The goriest parts of the movie are in the second half, and are very gory, including chopping, slicing, ripping, etc. Definitely not for those with weak stomachs.

Cannibal Ferox: Cannibal Ferox is a gory exploitation film released in 1981. The movie is supposedly banned in over 30 countries and the producers claim the movie to be "the most violent film ever made." It includes animal killings, which are real(the animals were really killed). It also has several violent scenes and nudity is present. Obviously, discretion is also advised for this one.

Hostel: Hostel is a pretty recent horror movie, which is also gory. It has raised quite some controversy, and some were amazed Hostel was not given an NC-17 rating. The first half has strong nudity, and the second half has strong gore, including torture scenes. Discretion on this one.

Saw 3: Saw 3, another recent horror film, is also gory. The movie basically is just people getting tortured or suffering brutal deaths. Characters get ripped, frozen, beat, chained, cut, and more. There have been reports of people having to be hospitalized because of shock from the film's gruesome content. It does have a good twist. However, you should not watch this film if you have a weak stomach.

Of course, there are several more gory films out there. These are just some known ones. Check these out and research more if you are a hardcore gore fan or if you are interested. Other than that, watching these and other films are not recommended due to graphic violence.
