Eve Online Salvaging

Salvaging for the Newbie

So your new to Eve Online and have very little cash. Your a new pilot lost in space with no real outline for game play. While this may daunt many players, this is also why Eve Online has garnered such a large player base. While there are numerous things to do in Eve Online, my favorite cash income by far is salvaging loot. With sa little bit of training you will be able to follow around another player taking salvage and loot that they usually don't want.

In Eve Online the cash is called isk. What sets Eve Online apart from many other mmorpg's is the economic system, which is fully player supported. This means that all ships are created by real life players. The materials used for these ships are found by real players. This creates an interesting position for making money (isk), being that salvaging removes the broken parts from other ships wrecks, which are usually npc pirates. These broken parts can either be sold how they are or fixed then sold. Either way the parts salvaged from wrecks take up very little cargo room and sell for very large profits, since you paid nothing for them.

There are many different forms of salvaging wrecks. The safest approach is to have a friend go killing pirates. When the coast is clear he calls you in to clean up the wrecks. Another form is to do both of these on your own, unfortunately this takes more training and time since you must be powerful enough to kill the pirates and have at least one salvaging fitting for the wrecks, which will lower your damage output. One of the most popular version of solo salvaging is to fit the fastest ship you can get with every salvage fitting you can then add speed enhancers to your ship. The goal here is to salvage from the wrecks fast enough that you will not even have to stop. If you do have to stop you can do so fast enough that the pirates would not even be able to target and attack you. This option is of course more hazardous but is possible for the solo salvager. The other popular option is to create a ship for salvaging out of a larger more powerful ship. While the ship is slower than the smaller faster ships it usually has large shields, armor and structural hit points, this means that while you may get shot at and even take damage, you will survive it long enough to get that all important salvage.

Ships of interest to new salvager's will be the racial ships of the Minmatar for speed. The frigate ships of the Vigil and the Rifter have become some of the most popular salvaging ships in Eve Online. The Rifter has the important role of at this time being Eve Online's most popular frigate, with both speed, Maneuverability and power.

While salvaging may get "boring" for some, it must be mentioned that this is one of millions of things to do in Eve Online. That is the point of Eve Online, to let the player do what they wish is why Eve Online has a realism that cannot be matched by other mmorpg's. The only unfortunate thing about Eve Online is how the new player is stuffed in a ship then set out into the world with very little direction or tutorials as to how the game works. Happy salvaging.
