Even Better MPG from Volkswagen: See it Here!

Kyle Busch
I recently did an article on the upcoming 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. It is a clean diesel that passes the emissions requirements in all 50 states, and it gets 30 city and 42 highway mpg. I also did an article on
the 2011 Volkswagen New Compact Coupe (NCC). It is a gas/electric hybrid that gets 67 mpg. Then, I said to check back for an even better fuel saver from Volkswagen. Now we focus on the upcoming Volkswagen Up Lite!

What will it offer? Well, as will be the theme in the auto industry, the Up Lite will be light weight at 1530 lbs (vehicles this size today weigh about 2300 lbs.) and its small engine will make about 60 hp. Figures for this VW suggest 115 mpg (70 mpg city and highway combined), a 100 mile per hour top end, and a 0-60 time of 12 seconds. In addition, the Up Lite looks good!

The Up Lite hybrid will likely be equipped with a .8-liter two cylinder diesel/ electric motor equipped with a seven-speed DSG transmission. Given its exterior dimensions, it will offer good interior space and seating that can be configured for maximum utility. As is the customary standard with VW, the car will have excellent fit and finish and will be comfortable. Expect the Up Lite to cost about $16,000 and be on sale in the U.S. in 2012
or 2013.

Just like your National Automotive Examiner, it looks like Volkswagen is also going to just keep bringing it!
