Even Conservative Floridians Question Bachmann's Drilling Plans

COMMENTARY | Are some supporters of Michele Bachmann finally coming to realize what many of us have already known? Bachmann's latest idea left even conservative Floridians scratching their heads. Her way of helping America become less dependent on foreign resources for oil has no bounds. Bachmann says we must "go where the energy is" -- even if that means the Everglades, according to Politic365.

Her reasoning? God has given us these natural resources to be used, and it makes "no sense that President Obama would lock these resources up."

Baffled? So am I, and I'm happy to see that those in Florida, including staunch NRA supports, hunters and fishermen, do not want to see oil-drilling in the Everglades. Bachmann, once again, seem to spew words from her mouth that are utter nonsense. Does she realize that the Everglades are the source of fresh water for 7 million Floridians?

Either she is so dense she doesn't know that oil and drinking water are not a good mix or she simply doesn't care. I tend to believe the latter, though, after everything else she's said, I'm shocked that she is even considered a legitimate candidate for the presidency.

Bachmann contradicts herself when she says state environmental agencies would ensure drilling was handled appropriately to avoid contaminating the earth. She has made it clear she supports abolishing the EPA. In Florida, Gov. Rick Scott has already begun to limit the state's Department of Environmental Protection.

What's next? Will we see oil wells and pipelines off the beautiful Big Sur coast in California, or perhaps in Yosemite National Park?

Even after Bachmann's ideas raised some serious objections, she continues to promote her drilling idea. She states that those opposed to drilling in the Everglades are all "radical environmentalists," reports Florida Independent.

While Bachmann seems to like inserting her foot into her mouth, she is making a poor attempt to show her unwillingness to back down on an issue that really isn't even viable. A real leader knows when he or she has made a mistake, admits it, and moves on. Bachmann continues to babble about the importance of drilling, yet the Everglades area has only a very minute amount of oil and it wouldn't even be economically feasible to drill there.

Even a member of her own Tea Party, Rep. Allen West, R.-Fla., said Bachmann had made an "incredible faus pax," stating, "When I see her next week, I'll straighten her out about that," according to Yahoo! News.

Could it be some of Bachmann's supporters are finally starting to see the light, or do they still think she has the intelligence needed to be the leader of our country?
