Even Heroes Fail

I am an inspiration to people

Who think I'm hard working and talented

Strong, independent, heroic even

The ladies at the gym approach me

When I'm dripping with sweat

And want to tell me that they look up to me

But I tell them all the time that today is a good day

That the desire to exercise and eat right comes and goes

That tomorrow they might not see me

And then they won't see me again for a while

But today I'm an inspiration to them

These ladies at the gym and even some of the men

Who motivate me far more than I motivate them

For I know how fragile things are

Doing the right thing is not always the easy thing

But their kind words are a blessing

I hope they will still be my friend

If tomorrow comes and I decide to stay home

If I stop exercising the way that I have been

I try to tell them to just keep at it

That they don't have to admire me

For what I should have been doing all along

I try to downplay the accolades

'cause even heroes fail.
