Even in January, Earthquake in Haiti was Not the First to Top 7.0 In 2010
Should We Be Quaking in Our Boots?
I was very surprised to find that just nine days before the event in Haiti there was a earthquake registering 7.1 in the Solomon Islands, as well as a 6.8 two days later. Two days before the quake in PORT-AU-PRINCE there was an earthquake that registered as a 6.5 just 23 miles off of the coast of California. It was felt as far away as Oregon and Nevada.
This prompted me to see what other recent activity there is. The results were disturbing. For one, the map I was looking at was telling me that there was an earthquake happening in Haiti and central California right at that very moment. Now, they were smaller, 4.7 and 2.5. But what about all of those listed as 5.5 and greater? The fault line running beside California had over a dozen in the last 30 days.
Worldwide gets even scarier. There have been serious earthquakes by Australia also. Lots of them. And then there is that fault line that runs between Alaska and Russia. In the last 15 days 192 earthquakes have taken place in the world. Nine of them were over 6.0 and 37 of them were in the U.S.
Should we be concerned about this? I know I am. I mean, I feel relatively safe here in Nebraska but there is a good fault line here too. Oklahoma even had a few in the last month.
One thing that I thought was strange was how so many earthquakes are centered in California. And not just in one area. They seem to respect all three borders and don't stray often outside of them. However they are going crazy all over in there. Not just in hot spots. Why is that? Is it a sign?
It seems to me if it were just because of the fault lines it would follow them over the border. Seems like someone was even saying there was some Bible prophesy about earthquakes. Makes you wonder.
Well, this will definitely be on my list of things to research more on. Meanwhile- I think I will be looking forward to seeing that new movie 2012. That could offer insight as well.
The website I got this information from is the website for the United States Geological Survey. Fascinating stuff, like real time earthquake maps and info on past and present events. They even have simulations and use Google Earth models.

Post a CommentI Live in Tennessee, and pretty much the entire Tennessee Valley rests right over a major fault line. The last major earthquake happend in the 19th century, though. It registered something over 8.0. We had a smaller one about fifteen years ago. It made a loud booming noise and stuff shook, that was about it. You're article makes me wonder about our fault line.
Earthquake activity has increased with intensity for the last 100 years in the history of the world. I am fearful it is only going to get worse. The movie 2012 was awesome. Well worth watching. Thank you for your article.
Interesting data on the earthquakes. There is a fault line close to our area, and we have on occasion felt minor ones, but scientists think we're overdue for another good size one.
Something that I have found very interesting was the depth of each one of these earthquakes. Notice the 10,000m depth of many earthquakes, not just in Haiti. I was researching petrophysics and was surprised to find that the ground penetrating microwaves that are used to find oil underground (if used in high watts) can actually cause seismic activity. It was also interesting to note that the U.S. has equipment in Alaska that is capable of producing 1 billion watts of power needed to cause seismic activity, lookup HAARP-seismic.
Fantastic research, and fascinating/horrible about the earthquakes respecting the borders of California. I have a son and a brother out there. Great job.
Interesting read Kristen.
Matthew 24th chapter talks about the last days...'earthquake in one place after the other..'...among other things.
Interesting info. Guess quakes happen much more frequently than we hear about.
Very interesting and great research. I've noticed that also about other recent earthquakes. I also want to thank you for reading and commenting on my articles. Have a great day.
