Even More Government Website Sources for Public Domain Images

Photographs that Are Free for You to Use

Marilyn Quinn
Installment two of my articles about government websites that offer public domain images. The United States Government has images and graphics that are in the public domain and may be used without permission or fee. As you visit each site, you should read the disclaimers and usage policies. Some photos may be protected by license even though they are on a Federal Government website.

Environment, Energy and Agriculture Websites - This is the category you need if you are looking for photos of volcanoes, animals, endangered species, recreation, national parks and related photos. For a different look at our beautiful planet, I recommend you check out the Earth as Art Website.

Health and Nutrition Websites - Health, medicine, diseases, Cancer and other such topics can all be found in photos at the following government websites. Links are available at the end of the article and includes such sites as the Indian Health Service, National Cancer Institute and the Public Health Image Library.

History, Arts and Culture Websites - Among the websites the government has pertaining to arts and culture; you will find the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress. There are varied photos pertaining to all things American; religion, women's history, immigration, literature, maps, government, immigration and any other number of subjects. I strongly suggest you check these out at the end of the article.

Science and Technology - Under this heading we find the sites for images from NASA and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Check out the full listing of sites at the end of the article.

Websites For States - Each state has a website for images that are usually used to promote tourism in the state. Click on any state name to go to their website: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
