Can you think of any better way to spend your evenings after work than at the gym, getting a great workout? Many Americans opt to get their work out done in the evening at their local gym, outside, or at home. There are several pros and cons to consider when thinking about working out in the evening. Here are a few to consider.

Pros:

- You don't have to wake up earlier, so you can get a full night's rest. Many people underestimate the healthy benefits of a full night's rest, and for some, this is frankly not possible. Working out in the evening allows you to get sleep and work out: two of the healthiest things you can do for your body.

- You don't have to worry about starving! While waking up early to exercise in the morning is great, you have a full day to get the calories your body will need for a successful workout. Eat healthy, big, balanced meals to get the most out of your workouts.

- If done at the right time, exercise will not disrupt sleep patterns, and may even help you sleep better. Getting a solid workout in at a late hour can help your body tire out a bit more, and relax significantly better afterwards.

- It is a great way to blow off tension from work. Have a tough day at the office? Just get a nice workout in and get that stress off your shoulders!

Cons:

- You may develop a reason to NOT work out. For instance, it is real easy to get tired from a long day at work, or the weather may not be that great. People who exercise at night have to be motivated to do more "work" after their true work day ends.

- If trying to lose weight, you may eat more. You may eat more depending on how you fuel your body during the day, and you may eat more after your tough workout. Be careful with regards to calorie intake!

- Depending on the severity, you could wake up tired in the morning: adjust your schedule at night accordingly so you can get an adequate amount of sleep.

- If it is real late, your body may be in a relax mode and not function at normal levels. Look to exercise in the early evening, as close to 5 or 6PM EST as possible.

- The gym could be crowded: look out for the crowds in the evenings. If you are looking to go to the gym when many people are not present, try working out in the mornings.
