Event Planning Guide for Your Church Health and Wellness Ministry

Here are some suggestions when planning your ministry activities and events. Be sure to start your planning well in advance to minimize stress and make the best use of your time, money, and energy. Plan events by quarter or by month; whichever works best for your budget, time, volunteers, and available space.

Make a list detailing

a. What you need (food, equipment, materials, rooms reserved, etc.)

b. How much it will cost

c. Resources (money, contributors from community, volunteers)

d. Time frame for completion including milestones for evaluation of progress

e. Checklist of things to be done

f. Suggested corresponding content for newsletter and announcements

g. Follow-up and communication plan for ministry team

h. Marketing plan for your church and community. Consider the use of posters, verbal announcements, phone calls/phone tree, and handouts.

Here are some examples of activities your ministry can do:

1. Screenings

a. Blood pressure (hypertension)

d. Anything else that might benefit your members' specific needs

2. Education

Consider offering classes, guest speakers, seminars and handouts on the following topics:

a. CPR

b. Disaster prevention

c. Exercise

d. Weight management

e. Disease prevention and screening

f. Aging and senior care

g. Prescription drug (safety, avoiding dependency)

h. Disease management

i. Being a savvy healthcare consumer

j. Smoking cessation

k. Mental health

l. Healthy holidays

m. Home safety (preventing childhood poisoning, fire prevention, etc)

n. Any other topic best suitable for your members

3. Eating and fellowship

a. Plan healthy meals and snacks for other ministry meetings.

b. Plan a healthy meal around an existing church event.

c. Do a healthy recipe exchange.

d. Plan a healthy cooking demonstration.

e. Be creative and have fun! Everyone loves to eat.

4. Group exercise

a. Members could meet at a nearby park to walk or jog together

b. Members could meet at the church to exercise indoors

c. You could organize around other events like 5K walks to raise money
research of diseases and conditions

d. Invite other groups and ministries to meet for exercise (married couples,
singles, youth)

4. Church outings

a. Consider arranging fun outdoor activities for kids and adults at your annual
church cookout.

b. Plan an ice skating or roller skating night for fun and fitness.

5. Blood drives

Summer is the season when blood bank supplies are the lowest.
