Events and Attractions in Perry, Georgia

Perry is located in central Georgia and sometimes called the "Crossroads of Georgia" because of it's central location. The area is part of the Georgia Antiques Trail and is also home to the state fairgrounds. The area sees a decent amount of tourist traffic because it's located on I-75, a major interstate that many people use to reach vacation destinations in Florida.

Massee Lane Gardens

The Massee Lane Gardens are home to the American Camellia Society and open to the public. The garden is over 9 acres with brick walkways that meander in between the camellia trees. The gardens have been home to the Camellia Society since 1966. Besides the camellias, the gardens include a Japanese garden, daylillies and flowering trees. The visitor center for the society is located in the Annabelle Lundy Fetterman building where a slideshow plays with information about the gardens. Also within the building are a gift shop, auditorium and reception room.

Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival

The Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival is held twice a year, the third weekend in April and the third weekend in October. The festival grounds are located just north of Perry. It's an arts and crafts festival that features vendors selling wares and demonstrating how to make them. Musical acts, including banjo players, quartets and fiddlers, also play in an amphitheater on the grounds. Children's activities include a petting zoo, hayrides, horseback rides, story telling and magicians. Food is available for purchase like corn on the cob and homemade ice cream.

Georgia National Fair

The Georgia National Fair has been held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry since 1990. A few hundred thousand people have visited the fair. The purpose of the fair is to educate the public about agriculture. Displays of livestock and crops are featured in different buildings. The Reithoffer Midway includes games and rides typically found at carnivals or fairs like small roller coasters and dart games. Concerts of various types of music occur on most evenings at the fairgrounds during the fair. Throughout the fair, food vendors sell candy, sweets and fried foods. Each night, fireworks displays are held at the fair. Past entertainers have included singers Miranda Lambert and Josh Turner Perry Dogwood Festival

The Perry Dogwood Festival takes place in downtown Perry each year. The festival has been held every year since 1988 and takes place over a weekend in April. Admission is free. The festival includes activities like the Dogwood Festival 5K Run-Walk & 1 Mile Walk , kids rides and games, arts and crafts, food and entertainment acts. Perry Idol is a singing competition for adults and juniors that takes place in March and winners sing at the festival. Other contests include a softball tournament, the Miss Dogwood beauty pageant and desert contest. Food vendors are also on site to sell drinks and fair food.
