On Saturday, October 18, a March for Change will take place starting at noon at Wilson Park as New Mexicans walk to the Siesta Hills Shopping Center to vote early. Later that day, Rio Rancho will be holding its own. Meet at 2 PM at 4100 Southern Boulevard SE, Suite 6 (Campaign for Change office) to join the march. Also on the same day, South Valley and North Valley will hold two more marches across the street from the Goff Plaza (1721 Bridge Blvd SW) at 2 PM and at the CFC N. Valley office (6344 4th Street NW) at noon. Two more will be at Los Vecinos in the east mountains at 1 PM and at Los Altos Park at 2 PM. Pick your closest location and head on over this Saturday if you plan to vote for Obama.
Additionally, many places around the city are going to hold a Canvass for Change event. Contact your closest Campaign for Change office for more information on how to join.
An arts show will be going down on Saturday, October 25 at the Marble Business Complex (5905 Marble NE) starting at 8 PM. Featuring around 50 artists from most forms of media, the event will feature fashion designers, a photo shoot, DJ, live art, and even an art auction.
The same day from 9 AM to 3 PM, in the University of New Mexico Student Union Building, mothers and daughters may meet to discuss issues such as peer pressure and self-defense and can learn yoga and belly dancing. You may register for $42 per person at UNM's website, which also includes a buffet-style lunch.
Coming up this month at the Sunshine Theater include live performances by such bands as Everlast ($15, 10/20), Tech N9ne ($20, 10/24), and Senses Fail ($15, 10/25). Tickets and more information are available at Sunshine Theater's site.
Opening this month in movie theatres includes Max Payne with Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, Saw V, and The Haunting of Molly Hartley, a suspenseful tale combining the horror high school and the supernatural.
With so much to do and so little time, get out there, get moving, and definitely consider attending a march for change. My parents went to a similar event in 2004 and had a lot of fun, meeting a lot of new people, which was excellent since we had just moved to Ruidoso and didn't know but a handful of people.
