Ever Green

Eric Hubbard
Through the glare of the rising sun
Attempting to jog, attempting to run
The sun burns, beating down
Sweat glistens through a frown

A gasp for air, can't catch a breath
The air is full of rotting death
Trees no longer grow in this town
Man in ignorance has cut them down

Remembering a chance so long ago
The runner with dismay, does finally know
The simple task of planting a tree
Weighs on his shoulders so mighty

A day in the past to revere the earth
Was ridiculed and spoke of with mirth
If only there was a way to go back
And seeds and trees in the earth to pack

To keep the planet green and clear
For bees and bunnies and precious deer
Save the planet and protect the future
Plant a tree, and love and nurture.
