For forty years or more.
Economies were humming
And profits made to soar.
The joke's on us. The rug's been pulled.
There's hardship at our door.
Now every day is Earth Day anymore.
Waste not, want not. Haste makes waste.
Wise maxims from the past.
If we don't straighten out our act
These days may be our last.
Long range thinking, short term goals
RIGHT NOW that's what's called for,
Cause every day is Earth Day anymore.
Now being green, what does that mean?
Good stewardship of the earth.
Save the planet. Help your wallet.
Re-evaluate your worth.
Excess consumerism's now passe'.
Frugal ways must be explored,
Cause every day is Earth Day anymore
Unplug all those appliances
That tie you to the grid.
Learn how to garden, cook and clean
Like grandma's grandma did.
Empower yourself with sun and wind.
Use your brain, that's what it's for.
Cause every day is Earth Day anymore.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
That's all we have to do.
Think globally, act locally
Is pretty simple, too.
We must live more sustainably
Than we ever have before.
Cause every day is Earth Day anymore.
EVERY day is Earth Day anymore.

It is true that people in countries largely noted for their prosperity are learning to pinch the pursestrings a bit more tightly.
So true! I love the Earth and try to do my part in every way I know how. :-)
