Every Decision I Make (A Poem)

Kobina Wright
Every Decision I Make

Every decision I make

means twice as much

Every drop of water

I squeeze from a towel

must be measured

to retain twice the moisture

Every dollar

buys twice the amount of food

or the same amount

split two ways

when each dollar is short

Every breath I take

must be twice as calming

when my patience is twice as short

One old jacket

must be twice as thick

coupled with my body heat

that must warm two bodies

Every thought I have

must be analyzed twice

for cautionary measures

against poor judgment

Every decision I make

as a single mother

is twice its worth

from the day beforeI became one
