Even though Indigestion, also called Dyspepsia, isn't usually serious it is still miserable to have. When it comes on you're not always prepare with a stocked medicine cabinet. No need to worry because you have everything you need in your kitchen pantry to prevent or cure your indigestion.
Everyone is different so you might need to experiment a little to find which herb works best for you and your indigestion problems.
Ginger - Ginger has been used for centuries for many digestive issues. Ginger can help prevent or cure indigestion. Slowly drink a cup of ginger tea with your meal to help prevent indigestion from happening or drink a cup when the indigestion starts and continue until it subsides. For a single cup of ginger tea add a couple of slices of fresh ginger (or ½ teaspoon of powdered ginger) to 1 cup of boiling water. Let itsteep for 10 - 15 minutes. Add a pinch of stevia or your choice of sweetener.
Fennel - Adding as little as 1 ½ teaspoons per day can help your everyday digestion to help prevent indigestion. Fennel seeds can be chewed, added to a meal or made into tea. To make a tea: add 1 teaspoon of fennel to one cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 - 15 minutes.
Turmeric - Add ¼ teaspoons of turmeric to 1 cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10 - 15 minutes. Add a bit of agave nectar or other choice of sweetener. You can also add a little ginger or cinnamon to suit your taste. This turmeric tea can calm your indigestion or help halt it before it starts.
Chamomile - One of the most popular teas, chamomile, can be found in most everyone's pantry. In addition to its distressing, relaxing properties it can also help digestion issues, like indigestion. You might want to take care consuming chamomile if you have a ragweed allergy. Chamomile is part of the ragweed family.
Peppermint - I saved peppermint for last because there are some instances when you shouldn't use peppermint to help your indigestion. Peppermint to can be very effective to help digestion when taken with a meal but if you have acid reflux, GERD, or problems with heartburn you should not use peppermint. It may help your indigestion but it could cause or increase you heartburn symptoms.
Even though these cures are natural make sure you talk with your doctor about consuming these herbs, especially if you have a medical condition and / or are taking medication.
