Everyday Minerals claims to have high quality products, but are they really comparable to the larger boutique brands? A quick look at the ingredient label on Bare Minerals shows that its foundation contains only five ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica, iron oxide and bismuth oxychloride. Everyday Minerals contains titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica, iron oxide. It does not contain bismuth oxychloride. For women with sensitive skin, this is important to note. Bismuth Oxychloride is a by-product of lead mining and can cause skin irritation in some women. Many women who think they can't wear mineral make-up because of itching and breakouts are reacting to bismuth oxychloride. Bismuth Oxychloride is also what gives Bare Minerals foundations their characteristic sheen. The finishing powders of both brands contain zea mays, which can cause itching. Everyday Minerals offers zea mays-free balancing powder and 100% silk powder as alternatives to those who are sensitive to zea mays.
Another consideration when choosing make-up is the availabilty of a wide range of shades. Bare Minerals offers 12 shades ranging from Fair to Deepest Deep. Eleven of the shades are neutral or warm colors, making a good match for women with cool complexions difficult. Everyday Minerals offers 24 shades in cool, neutral and warm undertones. Both brands lack a wide range of shades for deeper complexions.
The best way to get started using mineral foundation is to purchase a starter kit. Bare Minerals starter kit includes two foundations (3g each), mineral veil (6g), warmth (3g) and three brushes. The kit retails for $59.99 plus shipping. Everyday Minerals offers a choice of five kits. The starter kit contains two foundations (8g each), blush (8g), a choice of finishing powders (13g), concealer (6g) and one brush. The kit sells for $28.00 plus shipping. If you aren't sure mineral make-up is right for you or you are curious about Everyday Minerals, they also offers a kit with sample sizes of three foundations, one finishing powder or concealer and one blush. The kit is free, but shipping is around $3.00.
Of course, it doesn't matter how good the products are if the customer service is poor. Both companies are reachable by telephone and email. Bare Minerals usually responds to email comments and inquiries within 48 hours. Everyday Minerals responds within 24 hours, so both companies are responsive to customer questions and concerns. Returns are easy with both companies.
Whether you choose the security of a twenty year company with Bare Minerals or the value priced products of Everyday Minerals, both products offer high quality mineral make-up that will improve your skin and make you a believer in the wonderful qualities of minerals.

Post a CommentI LOVE Everyday Minerals. My trial of Bare Minerals left me itchy and inflamed and the color was not right for me. When I found Everyday Minerals, I had been using traditional liquid foundation. I broke out constantly and had what I thought was rosacea. Once I started using Everyday Minerals, my acne cleared up and my skin tone evened out - it was not rosacea! It feels light and airy on my face, not like the cakiness of liquid foundation. Bare Minerals felt like it trapped eveything in and made me sweaty and oily. Everyday Minerals is also a great price compared to Bare Minerals, and you can try out many colors for free until you find just the right shade. LOVE IT!!
I will be visiting the States soon and as BM are overpriced (in my opinion ), was looking for info on EDM as an alternative. Im amazed at the intensity and bitchiness of many of the comments - this is makeup we are talking about here, not world domination by evil superpowers! More objective comments would be far more useful than meaningless rants.
I REALLY LIKE EVERYDAY MINERALS-HAVE NOT TRIED BARE MINERALS. I GOT THE SMALL TRIAL SET. I AM FAIR AND USUALLY HAVE REACTIONS OF ITCHING ETC. TO MOST PRODUCTS-HAVE HAD NONE WITH EVERYDAY MINERALS. I HAVE A LIGHT SCAR ABOVE EYE-JUST BELOW EYE-BROW AND IT COVERS THE SCAR-NOTHING ELSE WOULD
I use i.d bare minerals foundation and everyday minerals concealer, finishing dust, blush, lipstick and eye shadow! They both do very, very good job. I have very oily skin with a lot of blemishes, but the make-up is covering it all up!<3
Google "TITANIUM DIOXIDE DANGERS" and see for yourself how "great" your make-up is with this "natural" ingredient in it!
I meant "...breakouts since i STARTED using..." I also forgot to mention this...last Summer (2009) I went to FL (Disney World) I was at the parks from 9:00am in the morning till 11:00pm or midnight..the heat and humidity almost killed me...plus last Summer FL had a really bad warm front, temps reached higher than they had since 1983!!!! BUT when I got back to the hotel my makeup looked untouched! In the heat I kept thinking my face had melted off but NO...I would have a little sheen on my face, I would just blot with some tissue and my makeup looked like I had just applied it...so after EDM out-performed in record high temps I made up my mind...I will NEVER use another foundation as long as I live...or at least as long as they keep making EDM! :)
I for one LOVE EDM! The quality is amazing and the price is out of this world! My skin hasn't had any breakouts since I stated using this brand in the beginning of 2009. The foundation matches my skin to a T! After years of looking for a foundation to match my skin, i settled with MAC...but when I saw myself in my cousin's wedding pics I was shocked, I looked ashy and pale
:( EDM makes me look amazing in pics, I bought a very nice DSLR camera in December and with the high quality and clarity images of that cam my skin looked like MY SKIN! I get a response from them EVERY time I email them...the last time I ordered (a few months ago) they had discontinued one of the finishing powders I use...they really helped me pick another finishing powder...and it works just as well, if not better than the first one I was using! I am a customer for life! I love their blushes, concealers, eyeshadows and brushes, their brushes are amazing! I just can't say enough about EDM. I HEART EDM
>>Dear Sparks you spelled asinine wrong
if you read the costumer service letter...
costumer?
really?

I used to be all about EDM, but I was naive and, well, broke. I was so excited to have natural products for a low price that I didn't think to look elsewhere. But after a while of using them, I found my skin actually looked worse with the makeup on. Also, when I would contact them about simple things, I wouldn't really get answers about what I was asking. I've been trying other companies and now find that EDM is substandard in both product quality and customer service.
Was that sarcasm brit pop, or did you really have a bad CS experience?
Anyway, EDM has changed. They weren't very consistent on telling their users the truth on their late forum. Their products are so-so, and their CS is pretty inconsistent if not out and out bad. If you use them, fine, use them. You are missing out on better companies.
