Dollar stores are doing better than ever. If you stop at the dollar store on payday you can barely get down the aisle. People are buying everything from groceries to school supplies for a dollar. Most of the items are a pretty good deal, especially if you are not too picky about brand. Many off brands taste great or work great, you just have to give them a try. It's easy to budget too. I can get 20 things today... I can get 50 things today... I have been truly surprised to see just how much people are buying there.
Garage sales are booming. People who would not go to Garage Sales now stop at them. People who would only buy certain things will now buy anything they can use and be glad to find it. You can expect people to haggle a lot, but you can also expect people to snatch up the bargains. If you don't usually have a garage sale, now might be the time to try it.
Thrift shops are doing great, at least on the selling end. People comb Goodwill, the Salvation Army and local thrift shops for good deals. Donations are harder to come by as people make do with what they have instead of buying new. "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without". Bad news for the charities but good advice for you.
Flea Markets are growing like wildfire as people seek extra money by setting up to sell their unwanted stuff. Shoppers enjoy checking out a huge variety of items all in one place without burning gas driving around to garage sales or stores. You can spend a whole day shopping, buy everything you need and feel like you have had a day's recreation and entertainment.
Wal-Mart is not feeling the pinch. People who need to save money shop at Wal-Mart. I confess I've started buying all my groceries there and have found savings on most items. I also buy pet food, shoes and clothes at Wal-Mart. If you keep tract of prices you can find the best deals on anything and everything.
Every cloud has a silver lining and the good news is that people are learning to economize, save and think twice before buying anything and everything. I've always been a little frugal and it's nice to see people take a second look at their spending. There is great satisfaction in getting a good deal, getting the most for your money and saving for the future.
