Everyone Needs Their Space

Workshops Are More Than Just Hobbies

Many people have workshops, many people do not, I prefer to have a workshop to call my sanctuary. Every person needs a place to get away and be alone, some professionals refer to it as "alone time". I totally agree in needed alone time every once in a while. With all of the worlds stresses and problems in needed to relax and be alone to settle down. For many men this "special" pace has been the garage or workshop for many years. A place to be a man in, a place to do what you want to do in. No rules other than your own, within those walls, and no set agenda within those walls unless set by you.

Over the years these workshops usually have housed hobbies, something that keeps you interest and mind off of daily stresses or work related problems. These hobbies have also given numerous people a reason to focus on something intently, instead of non focused mucking around.

It has been known for some time that every person has different social needs. With this need comes the need for the place to get certain aspects of social needs. Many people have found that for the social aspect of being alone workshop is the best place to go. A place that you can do what ever you choose to do while within those walls, and you can do them alone.

This time alone serves as the best time for what I like to call "inner thinking" or "inward thinking". By thinking inwards you will tend to see what truly has been stressing you or bothering you. This is in no way a narcissistic move, this is more of a soul searching method that I like to think is closely similar to yoga thinking. In yoga you stretch your body while thinking, this moves the body and lets you think about issues or whatever your mind wants while doing your stretches. Working in your workshop on a hobby or focusing on something like this is lightly based on the same idea. By focusing some energy on the task at hand you can think about whatever you want and your subconscious can goto work. Not only can the workshop prove to be valuable in your mental and social life but also in some real world applications as well.

Some people have found some success within their hobbies letting them pursue their hobbies as careers. These are the dream careers, they are not the same for everyone, since dreams are unique but the idea is still the same. In a dream career you make money doing what you want to do or do as a hobby, everyday you "work" it feels like you are not. For some people that is being a tour guide in a state park, for other the dream job is toy testing or prototyping, it all depends on the individual.

While the hobby my never make you famous or rich many time the hobby can at least make you the hobbyist happy, earn enough money for some side pocket cash or even fully support itself. In any event a personal workshop or workplace should be in everyones plans, they not only let you fulfill the "alone" aspect of mental happiness, it also can be fun, rewarding, and provide a lifelong of adventure. These things are just plain hard to obtain when there is no specialized workplace or shop to carry out your best dreams.
