There are only two types called, type 1 and type 2. Diabetics have to strictly follow a diabetic diet in order to control their blood sugar and remain healthy. Blood glucose is the main sugar found in the blood and the body's main source of energy. If you have diabetes, your blood glucose levels can rise too high if you eat too much. If your blood glucose level goes high, you can even die. So, it is essential that you manage the disease by managing the food you consume.
Healthy eating habits and regular exercise can reduce the sugar level in the body and help diabetics avoid the complications of the disease. The best food is high fibered food like wheat, and oats, vegetables, which are sprouted or baked, fruits like apple, pears, and low glycemic food like berries, lime, and also proteins from nuts, seeds, beans and fish.
A diabetic diet plan should include planning meals ahead and taking meals at regular intervals. A nutritionist will help you in planning the optimum diet plan for you. A diabetic diet plan is a guide that tells you how much and what kinds of food you can consume at meals and snack times. A good meal plan should fit in with your schedule and eating habits. A strict diabetic diet is essential in helping you contain the high sugar levels in your system. If you are diabetic, counting calories will become a way of life. In general diabetics, you need to curtail the intake of carbohydrates, which contain starch and sugar. Migrating over to vegetables and fruits with lesser amounts of sugar, and including yogurts and sugar-free drinks is suggested. You can also include beans, and whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy products, lean meats, poultry and fish in prescribed quantities to your diet. Always keep in mind that the wrong food you ingest can lead to worsening your condition and raising your sugar levels.
Type 2 diabetes or Diabetes mellitus, also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), is the most common type of diabetes and more easy to control than type 1, insulin-dependant diabetes. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body does not produce the required amount of insulin to maintain the blood sugar level. Keep your sugar level low balanced with a type 2 diabetic diet. People with Type 2 diabetes do not produce enough insulin to cope with the sharp rise in blood glucose that happens after ingesting a meal. Choosing food types that are more slowly digested can reduce the spike in blood glucose after a meal. Because carbohydrates are broken down directly into sugar early during digestion, carbohydrates, rather than fats or proteins, have the most immediate effect on blood glucose. It is therefore very important to eat the suggested amount of carbohydrate at each meal, along with some protein and fat. Carbohydrate counting has to become a habit in a type 2 diabetic diet.
Gestational diabetes is diabetes that shows up in pregnancy. It is a type of diabetes that only pregnant women get maybe because hormones produced during pregnancy reduce a woman's sensitivity to insulin. This can lead to complications in delivery. A nutritionally balanced diet is necessary during this time. A gestational diabetic diet should consist of correctly charted out amounts of carbohydrates in the form of high fiber breads and pastas, at least 4 servings of dairy products and calcium-rich foods, three servings of iron-rich foods per day, sources of Vitamin C and intake of lots of vitamins and minerals is also necessary. Fatty and oily food has to be avoided. Gestational diabetic diet should include a lot of leafy vegetables, fish, lean meat and eggs, wheat, unsweetened yoghurt, baked vegetables, Soya milk, ready to eat cereals and a cup of rice.
When dogs get affected by diabetes, it is called canine diabetes. It is highly recommended that the dog is fed exactly the same diet every day, at the same time. Snacking between meals should be avoided. An ideal Canine diabetic diet should be restricted in fat content, contain high fiber and have high complex carbohydrate content. The dogs must be given fibered food and exercise is essential. The dog can be given fresh baked vegetables and lean meat. There are various brands of dog food in the market for diabetic dogs. Canine diabetic diet should be in tandem with regular, consistent exercise routine and medication.
