The diaper cake is one of the hottest trends in baby shower gifts of 2008. Chances are, If you are invited to a baby shower you are going to find one of these cakes there, or you are going to try and order one for a gift. Many people don't realise how simple these diaper cakes are to make, and how easily they can be customized for each and every shower. Here are some simple instructions that can help you create a diaper cake for the next baby shower that you are invited to.

First, when making a diaper cake, you will require diapers. The best diapers to use are up to the person making the cake. Some prefer to use infant diapers so the mother and father are able to make use of the cake right away, some prefer to use three to six month old diapers so the mother can enjoy the cake in the nursery and eventually take the cake apart to use the diapers. Regardless of the size of diapers that you choose to use it is important to let the mother know which sizes of diapers are included in the cake.

The layers of the cake are created by rolling diapers. The diapers should be rolled with the top towards the inside of the diapers, so the diapers are not damaged during the process. When the diaper is rolled tightly, adhere the diaper together with an elastic band around the middle. Wrap the elastic around tight; making sure that it is snug. Once all of the diapers are rolled set them aside, because it is time to begin the layers.

To make the first layer gather ten to twelve of the rolled diapers, stand them up, and place elastic around the entire diapers. After this center is finished than it is time to place additional diapers around the ring to create a larger diameter. Once this has been complete, and the bottom layer is large enough to support the second and third layers than begin the second layer, the exact same way as the first was completed. Gradually make the layers smaller and smaller, fitting them atop one another when they are completed.

For the base of the cake, visit the local craft store and purchase a cake round, some wooden dowels to hold the cake into place and the pinkest ribbon that you can find to make the cake girly. Use this ribbon to cover the elastic bands around the center of the cake, as well as to create a bow to place on the top and act as a cake topper. Use pink glittery letters to create the girls name, and use pink accessories and toys to decorate the cake round, voila! You have a diaper cake, perfect for the new little girl that is being welcome into the world!
