Evolution Vs. Intelligent Design: Which One Will Be the Leading Theory in Schools?

Nicholas Petre
"Today, the theory of evolution is an accepted fact for everyone but a fundamentalist minority, whose objections are based not on reasoning but on doctrinaire adherence to religious principles." As stated by James D. Watson in his quote, evolution is one of the most well known scientific theories. Some may say evolution is the only theory on how people came to be, however some religious followers have brought up a different idea.

In the Book of Genesis it is stated that our world and everything in it was created all in seven days by God. Religious followers and scientists have recently brought up the controversial issue and are still arguing about which idea is correct, and which isn't.

Evolution is the advancing in intelligence, strength, or any other significant traits in a species. According to TIME magazine, many scientists believe that humans evolved from some species of ape, though they are ultimately unsure. Nonetheless, the theory of evolution has been widely accepted by the majority of people in the United States, and is the only idea taught in schools.

Intelligent design, or I.D., is the idea that we were all just created. Based on the Book of Genesis, religious followers have pushed very hard to allow their precious idea to be taught in school. Scientists strongly disagree on the matter. There is a grudge between the two sides, and neither shows any sign of giving in anytime soon.

There are many different theories on things like how dinosaurs became extinct, so why can't there be more than one theory on how people came to be? According to TIME magazine, intelligent design really isn't a scientific theory like evolution. The idea of intelligent design was created completely based on faith in God. The fact that intelligent design isn't an actual theory is one of the only reasons that have kept it from being taught in schools.

The effects could be quite great if the intelligent design idea can overcome the obstacles put in its path. Schools could start teaching intelligent design as a theory, and maybe even oust the previously accepted theory of evolution. Evolution would become obsolete, which would make evolution basically unresearchable due to lack of government funding. Religious leaders would also have considerably more power, and who knows what could come of that. TIME magazine reports evolutionary scientists say believing in ideas with no great evidence to support them leads to corruption of logic. Judith Hayes once said, "If we are going to teach creation science as an alternative to evolution, then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction." - Judith Hayes

What is so scarey about I.D.? Why does it have to be locked out of examination? Why do PH.D.'s who believe in I.D. have to be fired for simply locking at evidence? Why are evolutionists so adamantly against debating the evidence? Perhaps one should view Ben Stein's "Expelled" video. Stop and think about the main stream scientific communities bias against any examining of facts related to I.D. If evolution is so competely true, why do facts bother them so very much? By the way, I left the scientic community because of their lack of integrity. If a theory "fit" their ideas, facts would be forced into the theory. The facts were not the ground floor for the theory. Over all, scientists tend to be as unbias as a used car salesman.

You guys seem to forget that I.D. was the fundamental teaching in our schools for many of hundreds of years, you make it sound like this was just thought of one day to offset the THEORY of Evilution, When the Bible was removed from schools as well as prayer the happenings that are taking place in our schools these days started. We need to hold each teaching side by side and not only teach one option to our children.

    Q. does it take more faith to believe that we humans just appeared on the scene on day or that we were constructed by intelligence? No wonder the society is what it is these days, when people are told they come from nothing and will return to nothing then why not take someone's life or home or anything else we are nothing to begin with and that to me is evilution, we imbed this stuff in our children's heads and now we are paying the price.

May the Lord of this universe have mercy on your soul when you reach the Judgment seat for having turned so many from even making

I guess it depends on how far religion invades government. Religious beliefs are already being pushed into law and if the trend continues I'd wager it's only a matter of time before religious teachings are acceptable in public schools.
