Examples of Great Corporate Social Responsibility

Lee VanAmee
Every action and every decision that a corporation is a part of does affect people; sometimes only a few people and other times it can be in the millions. It does not matter whether the business is producing widgets or services; whole communities can still feel the good and bad decisions made by these corporations. So, anyone who has ever sat on a board of directors knows that each decision and action that is implemented by them is not ever to be taken lightly. In recent years we have seen the consequences of what happens when the top executives or board of director's play with people's lives, money and environmental issues and it hasn't been a good experience.

The days of corporate greed have run a course that few seen coming. The government is now backpedalling trying to institute some solid rules and regulations (albeit way too late), but the problem still needed to be addressed. Not just in the monetary sense, but also in an environmental arena where profit was all that was addressed and any environmental impacts were ignored or even covered up to protect the corporations. The actions have been live for today and tomorrow our deeds will have been forgotten has caught up with entire nations; we are all having to restructure our lives, schedules, bank accounts, etc. because of corporations and businesses that were either mismanaged or downright corrupt.

The social responsibilities of any corporation are to be addressed as seriously and conscientiously as the profits and growth of the company. There are corporations that we hear about every day that are good, honest, whole, profitable, and socially responsible; because they took it upon themselves to govern the businesses that way. They stand out, they get free press and media buzz, they reap better rewards or karma because people are back to paying attention again. Consumers are not just looking at one side of their purchases for an item or service any more even when it doesn't cost much. And what goes around comes around; it really does matter how this business has treated its employees, vendors, communities, the environment, etc. word travels fast in this time of high technological advances.

Every action creates a reaction and it doesn't matter if you hide behind a corporate veil to facilitate any of your decisions or creations; there is still responsibility of consequences in the law of "what comes around goes around".
