Every family is different and each person's idea of 'great' to 'whatever' varies to some degree. The following has been divided into specific family needs to determine where exactly the best vacation would be. Not to mention after you deliver the options and the highlights you may very well find that your job of passing the final decision won't be as tough as you had first suspected.
Summer Family Vacations: Four or More
If you have a large family then cost may be an issue. To make the most of your summer vacation you may want to go somewhere that has a lot of sightseeing and camping involved. For instance, paying a small fee for space to camp and food to bring along isn't nearly as expensive as hotels and restaurants. Your vacation does not have to be extra expensive to have and excellent time. So, if you need to vacation on a budget then check out these inexpensive options.
Arizona is home to a few really cool places that can appeal to children and adults of all ages. Although it gets super hot during the summer you can always go swimming to cool off. The Petrified Forest National Park and The Painted Desert have wonderful areas to offer. There are two types of camping allowed here: Wilderness camping and the KOA camp grounds.
Wilderness camping, as you can imagine, is truly living off the land and you pick the place that suits you the best. You do need a permit so before you choose this route you need to contact The Rainbow Forest Museum or The Painted Rock Visitor's Center. As for the KOA, this is an area that is a little more tame. There is a place for RV's, or you can pitch a tent or rent a cabin, the choice is yours. There is a pool and showers available for your convenience.
Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon provide a really excellent outdoor adventure. There are many different camping and RV grounds available. Hawkeye Red Rock Park offers to fill all of your needs and a swimming pool if you want to stay in the beautiful open land. Lo Lo Mai Springs has both a Jacuzzi and pool for their guests... the choice is yours.
The Grand Canyon has a wealth of choices for the taking. If you want to camp out in a tent or RV then you have that option available on your fun filled summer vacation with a ton of excursions to enjoy while you're there. The Grand Canyon Camper Village, Mather Campground and Desert View campground are equipped with a lot of super cool amenities like hookups for RV's (water, etc), flushable toilets, grills, picnic tables, etc.
For those of you who want to visit here without the outdoorsy experience while still wanting to remain within your budget, there are cabins as well. Bright Angel Lodge, Thunderbird and Phantom Ranch give you a rustic indoor experience that is excellent.
Summer Family Vacations: Teen Family Members
Teen family members are almost a different breed then the rest of us. They are, in some cases, hard to please and if they are miserable then they work hard to make sure that everyone else is as well. The following destinations are all about the 'coolness' of certain areas and the appeal they have to teens.
Hawaii remains at the top of the list. There are many excellent things to do so they can not get bored, the sights are breathtakingly beautiful and the means of travel vary. By cruise your teen can bond with others their age, enjoy a vast array of parties and other age appropriate enjoyments, where as flying can give you more time on the land itself. Both of these are great options.
If Hawaii is not your cup of tea, perhaps you have already been there or it is a little too pricy for you there are other cruises available that can attract your teenage child and allow them freedom and adventure wrapped up in one special package. Summer vacations are the prime time for sea escapes. Mexico, Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska are all wonderful choices that have teen centers full of activities for them to enjoy and many more adventure that you can enjoy with them.
Summer Family Vacations: The Little Ones
Disneyland/ world and yes the Disney cruise still remains tight at the top of the list. The smaller kids need to have fun on family vacations so they will look forward to the next ones. It is important to do something that they can and will enjoy so they learn to embrace special times with the family instead of dreading it.
Six Flags Marine World is an AWESOME experience and is as much educational as it is super fun. There are so many biological exhibits and has all the spectacular rides like Disneyland so it is really the best of both worlds. It is not as expensive but is definitely as fun. This summer family vacation destination is located in Vallejo in the stunning state of California.
Summer Family Vacations: Bon Voyage
No matter your choice: camping, RV adventure, cruise ship, hotel and theme park you can make this summer vacation one to remember. Your children will not be young forever and you need to give them many great times to look back on. Life is short and these types of things are few and far between so enjoy them as much as you possibly can.

Post a CommentGreat choices! We lived in Arizona, but would like to see Hawaii. Disneyland is great, but we are going to hit Disneyworld, along with Universal Studios. I have teenagers that are pretty easy to please so long as the vacation involves a roller coaster or water of some kind. Camping is also a possibility. You have named some really good ideas, thanks.
I enjoyed how you made mention of those with larger families - that helps, thanks. :-)
Thanks Carol and Joyce!!
Fun suggestions, Manda.
