Excellent and Inexpensive Utica, NY Restaurants

An Italian American restaurant, costing $10 - $20 a plate, Joey's has excellent fried calamari and Italian greens appetizers. They make the best eggplant parmesan I have ever had. I also enjoyed the shrimp fra diavolo and the veal, peppers and mushrooms. The atmosphere is casual and there is a bar with Utica Club on tap, among other beers.

An Italian American restaurant, costing $5 - $15 a plate, Tony's has delicious greens, classic pasta fagioli, a hearty baked lunch platter with stuffed shells, ravioli, manicotti and rigatoni covered with sauce and either meatball or sausage, and authentic greens and beans. The atmosphere is casual and there is a full bar in front of the dining room.

Phoenician Restaurant

A Lebanese restaurant, costing $10 - $20 a plate, the Phoenician is known for excellent tabouli, hummus, grape leaves, baba ganoush, lamb, and other Mediterranean specialties. They have an inexpensive lunch buffet with a variety of hot food and fresh meat along with a salad bar. The atmosphere is casual and while there is no bar area, they do serve beer and wine.
