So decide on your theme and then get your glasses.
If you are going with the sophisticated martini theme you will want the following ingredients. Colored sugars. Gently wet the rim of the glass and then dip the class in the colored sugar add a few pieces of some fresh fruit raspberries or strawberries and then pour in some fruit flavored club soda or a sweet soda like sprite or 7-up drink up and enjoy. Since you are serving fancy drinks you want to serve fancy appetizers. Asparagus wrapped in prosciutto or baked Brie. Turn the lights up and play some classic Madonna and watch people dance the night away.
For your weekend at the estate brew up some apple or pear cider with mulling spices. Pour the warm cider into the brandy snifter, add a stick of Cinnamon and you are ready to put on your hunting clothes and go and get that pesky fox that has been bothering the chickens. Brandy snifters are also great for hot chocolate. The glass gets warm enough to keep your hands toasty but not so hot you have to keep putting it down. Make the hot chocolate with good quality chocolate and real milk (no water and powder mixers at your party) top with fresh whip cream and a candy cane for a stirrer and your guests will be in heaven and ready to tuck in for the night or sit in front of the fire and talk about the best books they have read over the past year. These hardy drinks deserve hearty appetizers. You want to serve miniature shepherds or mincemeat pies. A good french onion soup served with different cheeses and breads along with some grapes can round out your menu. Put on a little Frank or Michele Buble in the background and you have instant perfection. If you want to you can substitute warm cider for the chocolate and top it with whip creme and fresh caramel sauce it is delicious.
Set up the gambling tables and then put out your cokes and bloody mary mixers. Peanuts on the tables and cheese straws. Add root beer and creme soda along with bottles of fancy Italian and french mineral water and you are ready to go. If the occasion calls for it have cigars available for your guests and get ready to gamble the night away. Along with the peanuts serve small pieces of midnight chocolate cake and decadent pate. The music should be cool and laid back jazz.
If you are getting sick of the cold and have decided to go to the islands for the weekend all you need is a blender, some ice, fresh or frozen fruit, a few banana's and some fruit nectar. I like nectar instead of juice it tends to be sweeter and gives off a more tropical flavor. Try mango or papaya or guava something that you can imagine buying at a local stand on a little island. Let guests choice there own combination of juice and fruit and allow them to blend away. Put on a little Bob Marley in the background. Serve some jerk chicken and meat pies followed a key lime pie and you will have a perfect mini get away.
Most of all remember to have fun. It is a party. Nothing life or death and if worse comes to worse pull out that bottle of vodka you keep in the freezer for emergencies
